I got a letter this morning inviting me to my retinal screening at the local hospital, 22 April, along with an apology for it being late. I know it will be normal, it always is, but one of these days it won’t be.

I’ve posted the thread because I know some folk are still waiting. It’s also a heads up for it being a lovely sunny day, it ever is on screening day.

That’s nine days after my appointment with the diabetes consultant at the same hospital, an outreach clinic, so no crowds of miserable people, and fewer opportunities to drive over people’s toes in my wheelchair. They already know what my control is like because of LibreLink, so I’ll be dropping hints about a pump.

No signs of any appointments in the wings for me. Annual review and eye screening both now overdue.

Like I said in the title of the thread, it depends where you live. There are two small hospitals nearby - to the south, Accrington, where some consultants from either Burnley or Preston have outreach clinics, and, a couple of miles north, Clitheroe, where my appointments are with Blackburn consultants, so I can safely wear my Blackburn Rovers face mask. If you don't live in an area where such hospitals still exist, you just wait with the rest of the local population for clinics.

Diabetes appointments in Blackburn are jam packed with grumpy patients in wheelchairs pushed by their weary wives, glaring enviously at my ultra zippy (and expensive) electric wheelchair. Either they don't realise that they can use their PIP payment into a lease of an electric wheelchair, or they just prefer to keep the money. I use the PIP to do that for my mobility scooter, because (a) I don't need the money and (b) all the insurance and road tax is sorted, and I get a brand new one in September, as it's three years old.

I didn't realise wearing Blackburn Rovers kit in hospitals was generally such a dangerous activity 😛
