Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi all. I didn't know where to turn as got some shocking news this morning. I started feeling like I was getting a cold a week ago and was sniffly, as time went on I lost my taste but not smell. I decided to get tested Wednesday and got the positive result this morning. I have no cough, just a slight wheeze and congestion like I have a cold. I have been so careful and have worked from home since the march lockdown. I have a bad tummy and that's all my symptoms. I'm just now scared because of what I read and see on the news about people with diabetes and covid. Please tell me there's good news out there....I feel OK. I just don't want to get worse

Just go with the flow, most people who catch this virus experience a mild illness as you are. Just having diabetes won’t make this worse - old age and/or obesity, plus poverty are the biggest risk factors for more serious illness. If your temperature is normal you have little to worry about a week after infection.

Hope (and trust) you get better soon. Don’t worry unnecessarily.

One of our members, @trophywench, who has been ultra careful since March as she and her husband fall into the 'older' and 'with health problems' category, has just recovered from it with flying colours, so hopefully you’ll be the same. Just because a higher percentage of people with diabetes have problems still doesn’t mean it’s a very big percentage, particularly for someone your age.

Hey. Thank you for your replies. I really appreciate it. It's all surreal as I haven't been out for 2 weeks, when I did it was to the supermarket and only had one online delivery as I thought I was being careful. I am a larger girl too so you can see why I worry. I guess keeping up with the news is not helping me or my mind.

Hemsley please keep an eye on your breathing with having a wheeze and if you have any concerns then dial 111 or a+e don't be frightened to get help.

i wish you a good recovery,

Mike (hugs)

Good grief, I'm beginning to think that supermarkets are breeding grounds for germs. :( Get well asap. (((hugs)))

All you hear about on the news and social media is the unlucky ones who got bad complications, you don’t hear about all the many more people who only had a mild dose and recovered. Hopefully you’ll be in the latter category, just take care of yourself, and hope you feel better soon x

What a lovely, not, Christmas & New Years prezzie.
I hope you’re feeling much better soon.

Most people have a mild illness and recover well.
My understanding is , with well controlled diabetes we are at no more risk than non diabetics.
Having said that , if you should start to feel worse then please don’t ignore it get help quickly..

It’s perfectly understandable that you are worried but as already been said we mostly only hear about the worst cases.

Of course they are! We currently have one third of our staff off, I'm shocked I've not caught it yet (touch wood!)

while we had carers here one lady had gone to Morrisons. She told me that she walked back out as the place was heaving and wasn't prepared to put herself at risk. i all ways go to a little shop and they are strict on how many are allowed in maximum off 3.

Just been to our little supermarket over the road, one young lady in pj's didn't have a mask. They shouldn't allow peoples in without masks. Grr.

It can be picked up anywhere, our friend got from a petrol pump handle, she had no contact with anyone and was in her house for weeks then went to get fuel and got it. Worrying about it is no help to you, my wife has recovered fine and just has the cough now but is Negative and back nursing where she got it from in the first place.

They shouldn’t allow people in who can’t be bothered to get dressed either! Nothing to do with covid, it just shows a complete lack of respect for anyone if you can’t be bothered to take 5 minutes to change out of your nightwear into jeans and jumper before you leave the house!

Regards people not wearing masks, you don’t know if they have a valid reason for not wearing them. There have also been reports of people who have medical reasons not to wear them scared to go shopping because of the abuse they get. It would be nice if such people could wear some sort of ID though to make the situation clear so that there is no need to challenge them!

There's a woman that wears her exemption card on a lanyard here (she has bad COPD) and there's one shop in the town that will not allow her in, I feel sorry for her as her reason is very valid xx

On another forum I am on a shop worker said where she is many wear the lanyard's . I have read some with COPD and Asthma, and Abuse survivor's. Though I suspect there is not blanket reason for some conditions.

You can buy them online no problem.

Hello @Hemsley38 welcome to the forum, so glad you found us.

Unless your symptoms get worse don`t be overly concerned, in reality you should make a full recovery,
hope all the members have eased your mind?

Take care stay safe we are here for you. xx

I live in a small village with one main (small) supermarket, and another small store. I'm trying to stop using the supermarket due to number of people not wearing masks in such a confined area. I'll drive a few miles to shops with larger aisles. If someone is standing outside having a ciggie, then probably not exempt.

Hope you get over this Ok.

All countries bar 4 report the number of people who have recovered. The UK is one of the 4 and I often wonder why that is.
I blame our media, who all seem to think that doom and gloom stories are far more interesting than good news :(
