I have a target weight range - no point in having a target weight because that wanders a bit - and I have noticed that in the last couple of weeks my weight is usually nearer to the top of my range rather than near the middle. When I thought about it I began to think that maybe my portion sizes were a bit bigger than they used to be and that was the reason for the shift. I have decided to call this phenomenon portion creep and am adding it to the list of unintended consequences of the lockdown.

Anybody else noticed it? By the way, if you are struggling with low weight it could be just what you need, but if you are a bit on the big side it would not be helping.

Funnily enough I’ve lost weight during lockdown, not loads, just a couple of pounds and I’ve put it down to not being able to just “ nip” out for a bit of shopping if we run out of something. Because we are relying on family or getting a Tesco slot for our shopping, I’m being frugal/ tight/ rationing our food. I have a very strict 4 week meal plan and whilst I may swop days when we have a certain meal, those meals are adhered to and nothing goes to waste. I told Mr Eggy off last night for putting too many Jersey royals in the pan for our tea as I need some for tomorrow’s tea. We’re not starving as we almost certainly over ate but it’s made us think a bit more about food, in a good way I think.

Yes interesting contrast for me @Docb.

No trips to the pub, but more of a ‘nibble availability’ in the house. And while I was trying to buy 10 days food at a time we always seemed to run out of something and needed topping up weekly. It’s far fewer trips than the 2-3x a week that I used to do, but more food in the house seems to result in more food eaten here!

I've always eaten less/wanted to eat less than Pete - and because I wasn't already used to 'his share' I've always found portion control really difficult since hooking up with him - my first husband decided to lose weight in 1972 (he needed to, so cut the carbs but ate more veg which suited me down to a T. It's been even more difficult since we've had to provide an exact shopping list to his younger daughter - her big sis (the chef) will always use her own discretion hence if she can't get any X or the X looks iffy, she'll get whatever alternative she thinks we'd like and fits the bill cos she knows I can do this that or the other with it instead if we don't fancy the first choice, plus decide to buy something not even on the list - cos it looks nice this week and thought we might fancy it.

I've never ever made shopping lists, always gone and bought a) what we needed b) anything special I needed cos I fancied trying to make whatever and it has ingredients not 'stock' items for me c) planning meals whilst already in supermarket hence having got to the meat and seeing something I fancied, so then needing more eg onions so diving back to the veg section to get them - or suddenly remembering when I'm in the tinned veg aisle, that I also need a refill of Basmati rice or whatever. Buying some more Sirloin steaks cos they're both well marbled and well priced this week - they'll keep in the freezer and we'll eat them so NP.

I'm currently overrun with frozen pork loin chops and got no mince whatsoever - and frankly only eating cos I have to, to stay alive - no pleasure in it, preparing it or cooking it at present.

I did the winter /summer clothes swap a couple of weeks ago (wardrobe too small to hold both) and it reminds me what I have got when I do the swap. Anyway I definitely noticed that my summer clothes had shrunk whilst in storage!!

I know that it is having the nibbles on hand and me being in every evening at present that is the main factor. Also I am having far more hypos at present, as I am succumbing to the pressure of feeling I need to keep tighter control to avoid problems if I got the virus. This whole situation is definitely playing into my weaknesses around how I perceive my management.

This sounds exactly like me!!!!

I normally do JIT food shopping but back in March I stocked up in case of Armageddon, which meant that I had kilograms of almonds and walnuts in the cupboard, so more nut-snacking. I put on about a kilo but that's probably not a bad thing, really.

Both my summer and winter clothes shrink every flippin year recently. Clearly, nobody makes stuff with the quality of C&A used to sell !

Portion creep, some dishes worth it, others not.

Interestingly wife has lost considerable amount of weigh but portions not shrunk, so depends whats on plate than quantity.

I’ve found my carb intake had increased, it does in times of stress/worry, not that I’m overly stressed but just the usual concern with Covid and having to go to work. I had put on a couple of pounds on and when my bg levels, normally 6 and 7s became an 8, I had to cut back the carbs and so the couple of pounds disappeared. I don’t have much interest in food, so portion control thankfully is not a problem for me, except the carbs of course.
I have sorted out my wardrobe as a charity are collecting this week and every item of clothing bought before last January has had to go, some I’ve barely worn but no good to me anymore.
Depending on who you talk to, some people are losing weight, upping their exercise etc or piling the pounds on, we are all different and coping differently. We will all sort it out when we get back to some sort of normality I guess x
