For the last fortnight I've been having porridge for breakfast and have found it to bring my blood sugar down. Today it went from 8.5 pre - prandial to 5.2 two hours post - prandial! Is this a reflection of how good oats are? Anyone else find this to ve the case?

I am the same today. I was 10.4 before having my brekkie, oat so simple with a bit of strawberry museli on top, 2 hours later 8.7!

Not necessarily mine does the same with a bread thin and bacon.

As with many things diabetes-wise, your responses will be very individual - Northie posted a great piece of research recently confirming exactly that. Personally I can *just* get away with porridge as long as I treat it as pretty fast-acting carbs (on a par with cakes/biscuits) and give insulin a lot of time to 'get going' between dosing and eating. All other breakfast cereals I have tried are significantly worse for me! If it works for you though, keep going 🙂

I love the stuff ! It must suit me cos bg level for hours. No extra cabs on just Flax seeds. Then off to work 😉

I have real issues with most cereals, except oatmeal. That's the only one that works for me.

Porridge seems to divide opinion diabetic wise between those who have no problems with their bg and those who do. Luckily for me I'm in the former category as I love the stuff. It's great before exercising as well. Let's face it most cereals, even the so-called 'healthy ones' are just sugary c**p. If I didn't have porridge my other choice would be shredded wheat.

Shredded wheat is deadly for me. Sends my BGs through the roof.

I have porridge every day. By latest BG was 3.5 very high in good cholesterol. I like the Golden Syrip formulae.

Still getting very good numbers with my daily porridge & after hours 😎
