Well, bought some organic porridge oats. I soaked them overnight in milk & a glug of cream with added berries & cinnamon. Zapped them in the microwave this morning. BG before: 5.3, 2 hours after: 6.5.🙂 Very pleased.:D

I kept a close eye on mine.

That is good. I hope you don't mind me asking and sorry if I'm missing something, but why did you soak them overnight and cook them, as opposed to just cooking them?

Nice one Mark! 🙂, I also soak mine in unsweetened almond milk all night 🙂, not sure why Mark did it @Lisa66 but I do it as they thicken up and are far less likely to boil over when heated the microwave too x

You can just eat them cold though, right?

It is recommended on the packet. Makes them creamier apparently.

Oh, I never thought of that one. Just did it as it recommended it on the packet.

Yeah perfectly fine to eat cold but I wouldn't at this time of the year! Lol x

These instant porridges are OK, but I do prefer it traditionally prepared. It’s not a Scottish thing, it’s just a taste and texture thing. Course, I’m retired so I can take my time. And it is just my opinion, folk might well prefer the microwaved stuff.

The one concession to modernity is a non stick pan, but some folk like the crust at the bottom. Weirdos.

Ah, that's interesting Mark and Kaylz, never heard that before. So that's something new I've learnt today. I have gone back to making my porridge on the hob recently, definitely creamier than microwaving, which I've been doing for a long time. Doesn't seem to take much longer either.

@Beck S I often soak oats in the fridge overnight (more often in the summer) and then have them cold, they're lovely like that too. I put all sorts of toppings on, nuts, seeds, chopped up Apple or pear, dollop of yoghurt....yummy. I quite fancy some now.🙂

I always soak overnight, because my dad soaked porridge overnight. The soaking up makes sense but it is just how I have always made it, in the double pan that he always used!,

It's definitely something I've wanted to try for a while, so maybe this might be the push to do it. Interesting to read, thanks guys.

I've never soaked it and just shove it in the microwave every morning as I'm usually in a rush. When the microwave conked out I had to cook it on the hob and definitely tasted creamier. However, new microwave and it's back to the ping. I usually add chia seeds and ground flaxseed and blueberries if we've got any in. I prefer the jumbo oats - currently using the Aldi Kavanaghs organic ones.

Well, I thought the porridge oats I bought were the traditional raw oats that needed 'preparing' & all that, but as they can be microwaved, maybe they are just basic processed ones. Anyway, whatever they are, I can handle them.🙂 I couldn't when first diagnosed.

iv been soaking my porridge overnight and definitely makes them creamier, i add raw cacao powder and ground almonds and when heated in the microwave, smells more like a choc cake when it comes out, usually use the asda 75p porridge but did try aldis organic oats at £1.50 and sooo nice
