So this is my problem..

I have been planing to move to uk in 2 years...
I have diabetes 1, and just wonder what does the insulins cost in uk?
Here, in finland, you only have to pay like 5? every 3 month.. so I just wonder what sort of system do you have in uk?🙂

if you are a resident of the uk your entitled to a exemption card due to being type 1 so it costs nothing.

UK residents get their insulin free, but there may be an arrangement with your country's health service to provide you with free or reduced cost insulin. If you are working here and paying taxes I would think you can get NHS (National Health Service) benefits.

i think you can to, but im not 100% sure. then again if your on benefits or a student you defo do get the entitlement to free scripts.

All diabetics on medication (type 1 and type 2) are entiled to a medical exemption card which covers any medication you need (including cough medicine if the doctor prescribes it) and free eye tests. Being insulin dependent you may be entitled to more things, but check first.

Thank you for your answers.. 🙂 I have my doctor appointment in 3 weeks and will ask if she would know something or someone you could help with this thing.. I alredy know that I will get housing supplement while i study in uk etc so it would be wierd if i wouldnt get the medical aid...

as a student i assume you will be entitled to certain benefits so you will be entitled to free medical help if you get them benefits.

Actually, students in the UK are NOT entitled to many benefits - not "housing supplement" (called housing benefit), unemployment benefit etc, except some benefits in some cases eg if they have dependent children. For health services, students ARE treated the same as other residents.

However, as you come from a European Union country, before you leave Finland, you need to get a European Health Insurance Card (that's what it's called in English) for temporary visits. That would help until you can get other cards. The best people to ask are the international students officers at the college / university where you are going to study.
