Hello again
The conclusion to the story;
We had so many difficulties getting data off the meter, this seemed to be a software problem, which was never resolved. In any event, no-one at the DVLA was interested in seeing the data anyway.
They advised that a letter from the GP was required to confirm there were errors on the report he completed. If such evidence was forthcoming, they would lift the revocation of licence. They said. They lied.
The GP admitted that one of his responses was a plain mistake and also, that the patient knew more about the requirements of fitness to drive regs than he did! (I don’t think he’d even looked at them prior to conducting the exam). He wrote to the DVLA confirming this and fitness to drive.
The DVLA did not restore the licence, they instead, instructed my friend to attend a second appointment with a DVLA specialist Doctor, over fifty miles away. My friend said he would have great difficulty in getting there without driving as he lives in a rural area with limited public transport. The DVLA said, more or less ‘that’s your problem you're not getting your licence back until you've been examined there’. So, I had to take a day off work to take him.
He passed the final med exam and his licence was eventually restored, but it took around three months of total stress and cost him his job of fifteen years.
The system is a total farce.
Very many thanks again to everyone here for the help and support. I hope this story helps someone else in a similar fix.
