Here we go again! We've not been out since before Christmas so hubby has just texted me to say he's treating me, him and our 'adult' kids tonight. We're booked in for 8pm.

We're going to our local pizza type place.

Will the mediterranean meats or the wild mushrooms have carbs in?

I will no doubt be having the margherita pizza.

Will I be ok going by the margherita pizza thin crust on carbs and cals?

Because I'm eating out I'll be bolusing after I've had my meal and using the BG test result from before the meal but am I best doing my BG test before the starters or after the starters and before the pizza?

The mushrooms will be very low carb I’d expect. Similarly the baked Camembert.

Carbs and Cals is a rough guide and I’m sure you’ll be able to navigate your way around the meal and the necessary bolus but let’s wait for one of the T1 contingent to arrive and ease your apprehension more than I’m able 🙂

Thank you @ColinUK

I wouldn’t count baked Camembert with bread as low carb, yes the cheese itself is but not the bread. Same for the meats with bread.

Also I would test before the starter not after, because most of the starters have bread they will increase blood sugar.

It’s a tricky one isn’t it. Especially if @mum2westiesGill is planning to not inject until much later.

Could you dose at the table after the starters Gill, and again later when you know how much pizza you have eaten?

Leaving it right until the end makes me think that some of the food might have absorbed, and your levels might be high when you inject after, which might mean the doses don’t work as expected?

I'll give it a go and dose at the table after the starters then again after I've finished I'll have the rest if the dose.

Let us know how it goes. be a bit careful, as pizza can have a lot of carbs, but they can be slowed way down by the fat, so they might arrive over a longer time than ‘normal‘ carbs 🙂

Everything we had was shared.
I had
some of the mediterranean meats - I didn't have the bread which goes with it
Mixed olives
Wild mushrooms - delicious with the garlic butter - yummy
Margherita pizza
A piece of the sweet chilli chicken pizza
1 parma violet gin & diet coke
2 whisky & diet cokes

BGLs
20:25 before meal test 11.8
21:12 used the test result from before meal for bolus advice. 100g of carbs for the pizza - I asked for a side plate and I weighed my pieces of pizza on my folding scales. 10.0u humalog for food. 1.5u correction.
Maybe all of what I did wasn't the right thing to do.
I had 2 pieces of chocolate orange when I got home.
00:01 bedtime. BG 3.8 whoops! Had 5 dextrose tablets.
00:27 still bedtime lol. BG 5.3. Had 2 dextrose tablets to get me above my bottom target number of 6mmol and re currently trying to get my hypo awareness back.
00:51 BG 10.1. Had 3 nice biscuits 15g of slow acting carbs to follow up.
7:14 waking BG 14.2. 11.0u tresiba. 2.0u humalog correction.

Sounds like it went pretty well apart from that little dip towards a hypo Gill!
