Wow! What a slog @AJLang

Glad you got through it OK! Did you think it went OK? Were you able to put your situation across clearly?

Shocking that it takes so long for you to hear!

Thank you Patti and Mike. It really was a slog and I’m so thankful that I had Mark with me and to prompt me with things I’d forgotten. I haven’t got clue how it went but there was a lot of questioning around two things that she thought contradicted each other but I didn’t think they did. But bless her she gave me every opportunity to explain things as much as I could. It’s like an academic exam you have absolutely no idea how you got on until you get the result. It’s quite distressing when you discuss all of the issues that you realise that is how bad things are now. I’m now going to forget it until I get the letter with the outcome.

Well done for surviving 2 1/2 hours!!!
I hope that you get a positive outcome.
Thank you. It was just under two hours but the time went very quickly. I’ve been fit for nothing since it finished.

Thank you everyone. It took nearly two hours and I should get my report and outcome in 6-8 weeks.

Just to let you know, once you get a text message to say the DWP have your report or alternatively after a week has passed you can ring the PIP number and ask for a copy of the assessment report.

This will tell you what the assessor is recommending, because the majority of the time the DWP decision maker will go with what the HCP is recommending.

This often helps people because if it is not what you are expecting it gives you time to put together a mandatory reconsideration, however this can’t be lodged until you actually have the decision letter.

Although that said if you are an anxious person than requesting the report might not be the best idea as it can often stress some people out before they get the official decision letter.

More often than not if you are successful the backdated money will hit your account before you get the letter too.

6-8 weeks for a decision is also just a guesstimate. I am a member of many other forums that deal with disability and benefits and the stories I am witnessing suggest some people are waiting longer and the odd few even shorter periods, it’s basically a lottery of where you live, which decision maker you are allocated to and their workload.

I’ve a lot of experience with PIP so if you have questions please ask.

It sounds as if you coped very well in the circumstances, it is always worrying to have to go through something like that, you wonder why it has to be so tortuous.
Still people would complain if an award is made to people who are trying to cheat the system and sadly there are those who do. A friend was asked to do an assessment for somebody claiming they couldn't work because of a chronic back injury and when she called round found them digging the garden.

Thank you Leadinglights. In retrospect I’m glad that it was long as it helped me to have time to explain things but there was a lot of cross examination that was difficult to understand. I’ve decided That I’m going to do my best not to worry about it and what will be will be.

Thank you @MarkGeordie I’m so glad that you wrote to me on this post because I woke up this morning to a text from PIP to say that they’ve received my report. I’ve had a discussion with my partner and we’ve both come to the conclusion that I would be too anxious if I read the report without the decision letter so I will wait for them both to come together.
Thank you so much for your help.

Just to let you know, you won’t get a copy of the full report, if you don’t specifically request a copy, the decision letter will go into detail with regards to how the decision maker made their decision but won’t include the full report.

If you do want a copy of the full report but as you say you would be anxious requesting it now, wait until the decision letter arrives and then request a copy so you can have the full information at hand.

Let us know how you get on once you get the decision.

@MarkGeordie Thank you very much. That’s really helpful as I didn’t realise that I wouldn’t automatically get a copy of the full report. I will definitely request that when I get the decision letter because I know that she typed loads of notes.
i will definitely keep you updated when I know more.

As soon as you get the text ask for a copy. The assessor/assassin has to upload the report with about 48 hours to the DWP.
Do make sure you are sitting down when you read it as it will differ completely to what you told the assessor.
I had to ring the decision maker and tell him it wasn't correct and I was not imho entitled to the amount given.
He wouldn't have it though and insisted I was entitled to it all 🙂 but obviously it can go the other way.

Thanks @Pumper_Sue I completely understand what you mean Unfortunately at the moment my mental health, is very poor and probably couldn't cope at the moment with seeing the report if it is negative. But I will definitely request it at some stage. I'm pleased that you had such a positive outcome with yours.

You need to get it asp because you only have a set amount of time to appeal if you need to.

Thank you. I didn’t know that. I’ve looked at the CAB advice and will look at getting the report when I feel mentally well enough. I really appreciate you making me think to check at the timescales because I hadn’t realised that they were that tight.
