Pills not working!

Hi Amigo. Good question. I started a 'sitting down ' job last September. This is only 20 hours a week but I walk more to compensate. That may have something to do with it though. The bs creeps up during the 6 hour shift even though I have only eaten a tin of mackerel. Nothing else has changed, although I'm less stressed these days compared to 2 years ago.
I really appreciate your support. Many thanks.
Are you eating enough to generally maintain your energy and weight? If you aren't eating enough, you could also be having liver dumps between meals. I know I sometimes have to be mindful of that; especially these days as my juggling is to keep weight on, not to lose it.

I never thought I'd be seriously uttering those words, for months, and months, on end.

And one final thought, do you maintain a good, healthy BMI?

Oh, and one final, final thought - honestly - as you appear to be going very, very low carb, have you done any reading on physiological insulin resistance? (I'm just reading a thread on that elsewhere.)

Hi Bokky
This sounds very worrying to me. One of the NICE criteria for considering type 1 as a diagnosis is type 2 medication failing, so you should really go back to the GP and impress upon them the lengths you're having to do to to maintain those levels. Someone with type 2 should be able to tolerate some milk, it might have lactose but it's hardly high carb. I agree with AndBreathe about considering the amount of calories you're eating because the body will release glucose stores to fuel the body if you don't eat enough and that could be setting up an issue where your blood sugar seems higher than would be expected from food type and level of consumption, but since the whole reason you're restricting food is the medication issues I'd still consult the doctor. Sorry you're having such a difficult time of it, I hope they get you sorted soon :(

Hi. You sound like a LADA (Late onset T1) which many of us have been thru; it's commonly mis-diagnosed at T2. Ask for a GAD and c-peptide test and to be moved onto insulin. If you are slim and on max tablets then your pancreas isn't performing any more (the c-peptide test measures your insulin) and the time for insulin has probably arrived.

Having read this through I was wondering about LADA too. Might be worth dropping that in to a conversation just to open up the discussion. Depending on the speed of onset it can often be mistaken for T2, but once the beta cell mass has reduced sufficiently the body really can't produce enough insulin and the 'insulin stimulating' meds have little let to stimulate!
