Thank you Silentsquirrel. I used one of these when I was the Roman Baths in the summer. It was really helpful but unfortunately upset my OH that my walking had become so difficult. I think he had hoped that it had improved. I will have another look at them and discuss with him because I certainly want to get out more. Thank you very much.

Don't forget to wear your best cardy, Ditto - Lycra is SOOO last year...gym-knits are all the rage.🙄

speaking as someone that has in the past exercised a lot... its what you can manage that is the key. walking is fine - the CFS has limitations there clearly of course. You say you can walk 5-10 minutes but then need a rest. Is there a route you can take that at a pertinent distance has a bench or bus stop with a seat or similar? Then you could walk to the seat, rest, and walk back again. Now you've done 20 minutes walking! If that was possible to be done at breakfast, lunch and tea time that's an hour a day. Obvs I don;t know the limitations of your CFS so it could be that is too much, or certainly for starters, but view it is little and often rather than one big effort maybe. the key here above all else is safety - not being caught outside in the rain for example. have you a friend that could walk with you? Or a neighbour with a dog that would appreciate the exercise too (maybe an older dog rather than a bouncy 2 year old!

Do you have a house with stairs? Or a flat with communal stairs? Walking up and down those would provide exercise also, and have the benefit of being available if the weather is poor for a walk outside, and also that you are close to home should you become fatugued. If you have no stairs at home, are there any steps locally and nearby that could suffice. It wouldn;t have to be a huge amount - a dozen would probably suffice. or a suitabl;e slope even (eg wheelchair friendly paths etc).

They're specifically intended for those of us for whom exercise generally is a bad idea - muscle stretches rather than aerobic exercise, so better for pwme than anything more energetic - but I don't know whether they'd all be feasible with your bad back.

Don't be put off by the title of the blog, he's not suggesting there's a cure for ME or anything, just trying to keep positive!
 
This is a great thread for me. My walking will never improve, but the upper body advice is ace. Keep going with the ideas, folks🙂
