Those who seem to be successfully posting photos, have you used a phone or a camera to take the original photo.

I know I was unsuccessful but I'll have my input too lol, I tried uploading a pic from my phone camera which up until the forum upgrade worked perfectly well xx

I posted some photos the other day, all taken on my phone. Some went ok but others were “ too big” apparently. I did think it strange.

I did notice your comment earlier.
It was suggested to me to email the image and resize it then post but I could not find it.
I tried resizing on my phone and then trying again but that did not work. I get the message to larger for server.
I am getting to point where I will not try again.

Ah, your pictures were what triggered my thread, as noticed the figures for your images look differnt to mine.

Yeah I saw you mentioned me in the bugs post but I've been on and off all morning lol

seems I can upload a screenshot and just edited and resized another photo that was going to upload then but unless I resize then this is the message that pops up

My understanding is that photos sent to a forum have to be stored on the forums servers and since storage space costs money, administrators are keen to limit the storage space they occupy. One way of doing this is to set an upper limit on the file size and I guess that has been done as part of the revamp. So if you send a photo which breaks that limit you get a file size too big error message. If that is correct, then maybe Josh could let us know what the max file size is so that we can work to it?

I think that could possible I am on another forum that has recently changed to new system that looks very like this one and tried to upload the same picture there and got the same message,

Yes that is the same message.

What worked for me with pic taken on phone:

- Save on Windows 10 laptop
- Open it with the standard Windows pic viewer app (by double clicking on the file)
- Resizing it all the way down to "thumbnail". Which actually resulted in something much bigger than thumbnail.
- Uploaded fine

Thanks but that seems a bit of faff to me. Not sure I have the app on laptop.

I have a couple of digital cameras - one is a bit old so I have the size set to 640x800 pixels which is usually fine for posting here and elsewhere, I very rarely need the high definition you can get nowadays on phones. If I do have a large picture I resize it, either by using the Paint application on W10 or, as Eddy suggested, the W10 picture viewer. I did notice the other day that a screenshot on my phone was relatively small file size, so I suppose you could select the picture on your phone then do a screen shot of it to see if that works?

I do think it's right to limit file size because it can eat up a lot of people's data if they are reading a thread with pictures in it, and slow things on a poor connection, but I do suspect that either the default limit has reduced or some automatic resizing facility has changed with the upgrade.

Screen shots tend to produce files that are smaller in MB (take less storage space). Over 'photographs' (landscapes, pics of dinner, dogs). Even if they have a higher resolution. (Large flat areas of could get compressed a lot.)
So they can upload easier.

Could we know the resolution limits, and max mb for uploads. I think they were reasonably large before.

Just test uploaded a photo in the media section of the site. I spotted there it says max file size 10mb. That's quite big.

I seem to be Ok with photos taken on my ipad because I get a little box saying 'choose image size' , the options being full, medium or small, so I can just click on a smaller size. (the original says it’s 5.2 MB, and the forum tells me that's too big. Medium seems fine, it’s 343KB).
But when I take a screenshot of something and want to upload it, my ipad doesn’t give me the option to choose a smaller size, so I’m a bit stuck at the moment if I want to post a screenshot.
Edit. In view of Ralph's post just above, which appeared as I was typing, I should clarify that this is clicking on the 'attach files', at the bottom of the post, not going through the Media section of the forum.

I was just wondering if it's different for a thread, and debating whether to clutter the thread with a pic of a cat. (It's what I have handy on my tablet.) To get an idea of what mb can be used.

I attached a pic several times so I could see the sizes, then deleted it again before posting. (Everyone likes a cat pic though!)

Oh, it's gone. There used to be an option to post a picture from the media section in a thread.

I am now sure that it is something on this site limiting it, as I have posted the picture without doing anything, to my Facebook page without a problem.
I believe the size of picture is over 6 meg.

I actually made some smaller, this was done on my iPad. I’ve just taken some photos which I hoped to add to the #1000milechallenge thread in Exercise. They have transferred from my phone to my iPad so will try and let you know if they all “ go”.

I’ve tried to attach the photos, I reduced the size to small and it downloaded them, great, but they are on their sides! Any ideas how to fix that, they are definitely not on their sides on my iPad.
