Just been for my annual blood tests at my GP's surgery and was told by the Phlebotomist that she'd been made redundant and that there wouldn't be a service from March of this year.

The poor woman is looking for a new job and there is no word on where tests will be done in future (the local hospital is around three miles away and much less convenient).

Is this happening at other surgeries?😱
 
We don't have a dedicated phlebotamist at our surgery, there are two practice nurses that take blood samples, amongst their other duties.
 
Hope that doesn't happen for us. I really like our phebotomist :(
 
Many surgeries around here don't do bloods. The hospital run clinics at more central locations, but they have to be prebooked!
 
I really hope this doesn't happen at my surgery, but given they are trying to save money it probably will.

The main hospital is ridiculous with having to pay £4 to park even if you are only there are 30 minutes. Although I think the vampires are at least bookable now rather then the old system of take a number and wait...
 
No choice here, the phlebs are at the hospital where you wait for ages, or the Diabetes centre on a Tuesday where you...sit and wait. The nurses at the GP will do bloods if pressed but you also have to turn up and surprise surprise wait....I'd do it myself if they gave me a syringe 🙄
 
Our GP surgery do GP things for a collection of local surgeries - Phlebotomy. midwifery and Ultrasound scanning (babies and anything else needing it that doesn't need a consultant) but it does mean you have to book. We have two vampires, full time Mon-Fri 7.30 an until about 11am. Can usually get in next day or day after that, esp if you want to go later.

Warfarin patients are given a special card and can still drop in as and when - when doses change or certain changes are noticed by people on warfarin, they MUST have a blood test as early as poss that day, and they/their doc will get the results that day too. If doses need changing, it has to be immediately. Was a PITA when my MiL was on it - had to get her to the local hospital pdq.

So - I can't complain. It's very easy. Oh - and they are both really nice !
