PfizerBioNtech second dose problems

@mark king my comment referred to things like taking a correction dose and not taking insulin on board into consideration or correcting after exercise when your blood sugars may be falling.
You will know you are over treating if you blood sugars go too low.
There is no such thing as taking too much insulin if we keep out pretty blood sugars in range so I don’t review my insulin intake over the last week unless i am experiencing too many highs or low.

By the way, if you reference someone else, it is useful to put “@“ in front of their name. This sends an alert to that person and makes it clearer in the thread who you are responding to.

Was reading this morning that any weird side effects that last longer than 4 or 5 days, you are advised to contact 111 and see a doctor (believe they are able to arrange this for you if you can't get to see your own GP or their after hrs/locum service) As @Siamese Cat has seen as doc and received reassurance and is now waiting for the diabetes team to get back to her from tomorrow, she's got it pretty well covered.

Really wild BG results can happen any time anyway whenever we catch something whether the medical condition we catch is caused by bacteria or viruses, as well as when our body is affected by any trauma whatsoever whether it's a planned surgical procedure or being knocked down by a bus, or tripping up etc etc etc. I'd always assumed it was 'the illness' that caused the BG variation but looks like it isn't the actual illness - but rather by our immune system ramping up to attack that illness. Hence bearing in mind although we haven't just caught some bug or other, we do all know for an undisputed fact the vaccine is supposed to ramp up our immune system - it should happen that the BG goes a bit bananas and proves our immune system is pretty much A OK.

I'm still a bit bemused though - only time I've had anything particularly violent happen to my BG - it shot up a day or so after I tripped and fell over, when I broke my patella, though I didn't seek medical help until Day 3 when the swelling hadn't gone down and it was still agony so Pete took me to A&E, they had to operate and do the jigsaw, pin and wire it - when my BG stayed far higher than it should be (and blood ketones for well over a week) then gradually decreased in fits and bursts over a period of several months throughout recovery, physio etc. Used millions of test strips and far more insulin (started off with 3 times as much insulin so anything less than that was an improvement) and was approx 9 months before my body got back to 'normal for me'.

However - what's bemusing me really is that a normal Type 2 only on metformin has no emergency provision on hand to try and correct the too high for too long for comfort BGs whereas Type 1s by definition always will have - and that the medical profession thus far in Siamese Cat's case don't seem to be treating it as that much of an emergency, really, do they?

Jenny i saw that earlier with the type 2 thing. all we can do is take meds but it is a total nightmare if the BG is going all over the place as i found out with the flu jab we are not able to correct to the given situation.

Been to GP, they have sent bloods off. Don't want to adjust medication at this time, want to wait for bloods to come back in a couple of days..

Do you know what they are testing your blood for?

I noticed no particular change in my BGs - maybe a tad higher than expected, but nothing a smidgeon of insulin couldn’t sort. Getting my second AZ jab in a day or two for comparison. Not concerned.

It says on the form Glu, HbA1c, FBC, U&Es, Ca, LFTs.....
That sounds like the standard package of tests I get annually for my Diabetes review.
Glucose (spot Blood glucose test)
HbA1c = 3 month average blood glucose
FBC = Full Blood count
U & Es = Urea and Electrolytes (I think, Kidney function, anyway)
Ca = Calcium
LFTs = Liver Function tests.

That was exactly the point I was highlighting - we have got it easier (in basic terms) of correcting too high BGs in comparison to anyone not already using fast acting insulin. So short term, just get on with it if you can.

However - whether that is the best plan in the long - or medium - term of course will still remain to be seen, especially when both the patient and their doctor are both dealing with something they haven't already got donkeys years of experience behind them in dealing with.

I have had my blood results back, the doctor has doubled my metformin to 2000mg a day. Will see how that works. I also intend to report my reaction to my blood sugars following the vaccine via The Yellow Card Scheme, because if diabettics don't formally report their issues it will never be acknowledged as a recognised side effect..I think anyone who has had any effects to their diabetes to do the same its the only way it will get acknowledged..

Hello as promised here are the results from my 2nd Pfizer jab received on Monday just gone.
Well no problems or side effects at all save for a very slight arm pain but nothing else.
I asked if the 2nd dose was in anyway different from the 1st and the nurse said no it is exactly the same dosage.
Woopy dee, all good.

Regards

I was thinking exactly that same thought, the other day, that you could do with 'Yellow Card' -ing your side effects for the same reason. It is why the good ole' MHRA have made it so easy to do these days - no need to go to the pharmacy and ask for the forms and go through the process of the pharmacist being interested and wondering this that or the other before you even have a proper chance to study the form and see what info they need from you.
