Just reverting back to this thread to update those that helped me @Inka @rebrascora @Proud to be erratic @helli

I am now happily having peanut butter on toast for breakfast!!

I worked out that if I take 4 units as soon as I wake up (even though it’s 22g of carbs for my breakfast), I can eat 30-60 minutes later. Which is fine as I tend to wait 15-20 minutes before actually getting out of bed

Postprandial breakfast spikes are minimal if I do this, and then I’m having a lower carb lunch and I’m staying in range pretty much all day!!

Thanks so much for your advice, it’s so nice to have finally cracked this

It's always pleasant to hear something back and in this case some 25 months later. I remember writing stuff (probably too much stuff, as was/is my way).

I'm pleasantly amused by your feeling of having finally "cracked" this. I thought that more than once, but I now realise that these were moments of complacency. Just when one thinks the D malarkey is in its right place in one's life (ever present, but under control) one's D pretends the rules don't exist and starts a new malarkey variant. Either that, or the your D has added to the known and listed 42 factors. This 43rd factor is being a wrong colour socks day - eg are you wearing unmatching socks on the correct feet? Or is your D in different socks to you? The permutations are extensive for the wrong colour socks factor!

[Have we told you about those 42 factors - possibly not? They are way too much info for those early days?] [If not Google Adam Brown's 42 factors, an article he wrote in Diatribe 2 or 3 years ago.]

Anyway thanks for the update.

I sniggered too when I read the 'cracked it!' comment. Don't lull yourself into a sense of security since so often they are typically false.

Still, mate - it's jolly good practice for when you are pregnant!

Guys! Please don't rain on the parade. Diabetes victories are worthy of celebrating and revelling in the moment and taking whatever glory you can, because it kicks you when you are down often enough.
I personally now have a breakfast routine that works for me a good 90% of the time, so some consistency is possible even though diabetes is fickle and yes the goal posts will move from time to time, but I feel that it is as important to highlight and celebrate the successes as least as much as lament the difficulties.

@StephanieMLW Go girl! Great to hear about your success and long may it last!

Thank you @rebrascora, appreciate your support.

To clarify, when I said ‘cracked it’ I was referring to my breakfast routine and the small win of being able to eat my favourite breakfast again. I’ve been trying to work this out for months so having something that’s been working for me the past few weeks does indeed feel like a victory to celebrate, hence why I wanted to share this with the people I generally consider part of my support network.

Great to hear you’ve found a breakfast system that seems to be reliably working for you @LunaLG

It’s so helpful, because once you can get some observable and repeatable results, then if your levels start ‘misbehaving’ it’s a good clue that your diabetes has changed, and your doses/strategy may need a small tweak - but you at least know it can be done!
