My poor feet are on permantly cold setting, no matter wot i do or wear on them at the moment i have thick socks on and the heating on full blast. They are still so cold. I have noticed that im walking into things a lot as well and that hurts a lot when i hit my toes, i wondered if this could be related to my diabetics at all???? This has been going on for a while now and no matter wot the weather my feet are cold/numb

hi Gail..... sorry to hear about your feet.

before my diagnosis I went to the doc regarding my fingers and toes.... they were perminently cold and tingling and painful. at first I had thought it was the cold weather as we had had all that snow... so I didn't go for a few weeks.

but it turned out it was the onset of neuropathy..... just the start..... and reversable at this stage

I would suggest you go see your DSN soon (tomorrow?) and make sure

in the meantime I find that keeping active helps .... a good brisk walk seems to help (wearing a pair of ordinary socks and a pair of walking socks too and my boots... as long as it doesn't make your boots tight) .... getting the blood flowing right to the ends of my toes. and I make a conscious effort to walk using the whole of my foot including the ends of my toes

hope you get it sorted out soon x 🙂

Hi gail, could it be something else other than Diabetes, as you said you are walking into things. I hope you find something that helps. Just a thought, cold feet, warm heart 🙂 Sheena

forgot to add that I was clumsy too..... the balance goes all weird..... but then the feet are very important in balancing 🙂

My experience would be that keeping my hands and feet warm first involves keeping my core warm. If the extremities get cold, I'll first add another layer to my core. Other things to help would be not having tight shoes, and not squeezing socks that are too thick on.

Otherwise, maybe you have some diabetes issue, or perhaps even Reynaud's Syndrome?

My first thought was Raynaud's Syndrome too. I have cold feet all the time too, never mind what the temperature outside.

I have neuropathy and constantly cold feet. I'm wearing a pair of woolly slippers which come over my ankles. They look silly but help, LOL.

That made me laugh out loud. I am in a hotel room on my own my neighbour might think I am cracking up 🙂

This reminds me of me a few months ago, I had to go to the doc about something else and asked about my toes... on 3 different occasions, to three different doctors and they glanced at my feet and said' They look alright' So.... that was that!
Knowing a bit about D now I realise it was a sympton . I do hope they will improve, or certainly go no worse, I find it a nuisance in bed, bed socks are now worn at least for a while but my toes feel so peculiar it makes me restless.

Just one more jolly thing !!

Hi Gail,

There are just so many possible causes, it may be a little unhelpful to start speculating here. I've been having a few problems with my lower legs and feet too (plus hands have been colder than normal). My GP currently suspects poor blood circulation and I'm due to see a vascular specialist shortly.

If it is causing you problems too, then raise it with your GP, he/she may be able to help you or get you referred to an appropriate specialist.

Andy 🙂

The cold feet could be poor circulation. The bumping into things could be down to high blood sugar. Both should be mentioned next time you see your doctor.

In the meantime, a simple exercise I learned for long flights might help a bit, sit in your chair with your feet flat on the floor and raise your heels while pressing down with the balls of your feet and toes. Apparently this helps force blood out of your tootsies and back up your legs and it's also quite good for the calf muscles. I do it all the time even when I'm just sitting at my desk.

Thanks guys i see my gp tomorrow, will mention it to him then. i have a pair of the old fashioned bed socks and they are a godsend to my poor feet.
