Relationship to Diabetes

Hi All,
just wondered how many of you suffer from the above,I have the most awful pains in my legs/feet.I am now struggling to walk too far.although my diabetes seems well managed,my GP said its one of the complications that goes with being diabetic.
Has anyone got any advice as to how to cope,thanks
 
Hi sweetcheeks, welcome to the forum.

Few questions - have you got any loss of feeling in the feet? And did this problem start suddenly? And does the pain get worse the further you walk?

The reason I ask is because not every problem you get is necessarily caused by having diabetes.
 
Why hello @sweetcheeks, welcome to the forum. Peripheral Neuropathy a topical subject, as one who suffers from this condition as other members on the forum. As @mikeyB advises its not always down to diabetes but if the condition has developed since or before diagnosis its worth further investigation. It would be nice to know your present medication so as a forum we may be able to give you better advice.
 
Hi, this has been ongoing for quite a while now,I find I have to stop for a while when walking.I have lost sensation in some of my toes ,walking around with a drawring pin in my big toe for a day taught me to keep my slippers on indoors! I am on no medication for my diabetes,the nurse stopped my metformin at the last check 2 months ago as she seems to think I can manage without,since then I do have spikes,more than when on medication,I also have angina the medication for that was stopped as my blood pressure keeps plumetting,I know take asprin in the morning,statins at night and omeprazal for a hiatius hernia,I had a scan on my legs last week,the nurse said my blood vessels in my legs seemed to be pumping the blood ok,but I have to see my gp,on thursday to see what else she can do,the pain is sometimes so bad I dont know what to do with myself,and sometimes it wakes me up in the night,thanks
 
Hi @sweetcheeks, its important you stress to your GP on Thursday the grief you are going through. I must admit from a personal point of view it does sound like DPN, insist on an appointment with a Podiatrist to confirm a diagnosis the longer its left the worse it gets. Good luck with your appointment keep us up to date.
 
Go see your Gp. I’m on pregablin not originally for this but when I seen podiatrist she said that’s all that I could be prescribed as I was already on strong opiate painkillers also. I do think the pregablin helps. But it is not a cure.
 
Hi All,
just an update,feeling very frustrated at the moment as I have just come home from doctors appointment about my legs,she thinks ..maybe..I have picked up a virus that is making my legs hurt worse..I said that one of the other doctors had diagnosed periphial neropothy,,she is not too sure,,,I have to go back on Wednesday to have more blood tests,I kind of feel like Im being fobbed off,Ive Googled the symptoms and that is what I have,oh well, onward and upward so they say
