How slowly does pasta increase sugars; I had a larger bowl than usual earlier and notice my sugars are still rising; normally I'd go on the cross-trainer but obviously its too late as I've just finished nightschool..Amanda 🙂

It'll vary person to person, but pasta can take 6 - 8 hours to fully break down and digest. When I bolus for pasta, I spread half the insulin over several hours to try and counteract that rise. 🙂

Hi

Think it also depends on the type of pasta(shape etc) how long you cook it for and what the sauce is. Also how much you chew it!

My daughters dietician told me lots of kids have trouble with spagetti because kids don't chew it at all - virtually goes down whole so takes ages to digest😱

We have twists or Penne usually, cooked only just and with a cheese sauce or more often with tomato lentil sauce. K has juice with the meal and the combination we find makes it medium GL (ish) but as Shiv says it's one to experiment with, unfortunately.

Good Luck!

I'm very lucky, I eat Brown rice and wholewheat pasta, which has very little effect on my sugars, but if I eat the normal white stuff my sugars rocket.

John.

When we have lasagne, often the peek seems to hits at around 4 hours. But the cheese sauce will be really slowing things down.

I'm with UKJohn on this. I only eat wholemeal pasta/brown rice. If I am out and eat white of either then I do less insulin as it doesn't keep going like the brown stuff!

Hi Amanda,
Pasta is a tricky one when you are a Type 2 on diet and exercise.
I find I can get away with a very small amount of wholemeal if I eat it with all other food groups but eating a large bowl of it, as you have said, would not be something I would contemplate.
