I was just looking at Diabetes uk lunch idea, I fancied pasta

Looking at the below recipe, isn't the carbs a bit too high at 73?

Jodee, I think the thing is that for those injecting insulin, and who are used to adjusting their injections to match what they eat, that could be very do-able.

For me, as a T2, not taking any diabetes meds, it would be too carby for me. We all just have to make these assessments for ourselves.

As a diet only type two, pasta is not on my menu. There are so many foods which are far more nutritious and far lower in carbs to even think about eating wheat.

That recipe does seem high carbs doesn’t it? I tolerate protein pasta with fibre so you try a smaller sized portion and add plenty of non starchy vegetables . It doesn’t spike my bloods at all.

Hi AndBreathe yes I am diet controlled too (no meds and usually go for brown pasta, I thought from my Desmond course to aim for 35g carbs if aiming to lose weight I thought 45g carbs for men.

I've just got called back because blood glucose too high sure hope they don't want me on the meds. I've just had a stressful period where I wasn't careful with my diet and not eating so regularly, think maybe that is what caused it

What do you usually go for Drummer? Do you have a recipe book?

no recipe book I'm afraid - though I did find that Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution was handy for lists of foods and dishes to make. I thing the 2003 edition is the most useful for type two diabetics.
I only eat twice a day, or sometimes just once if I am not feeling hungry - I am eating less and less these days - I should be losing weight, but I am not.
As we are getting such warm weather these years I often eat salad - a bag of prepared salad, tomato, cucumber, radishes, celery, coleslaw, walnuts, red sweet pepper - then some protein - any meat or fish, shellfish, cheese, eggs - a mild vinegar with olive oil as dressing, plus a pinch or herb or spice helps with variety.
In colder weather I have stir fries, courgette, mushrooms, aubergine, green or yellow sweet pepper - again with protein.

One of my favourite quick pasta dishes is raw prawn or/and chicken with veg. Start by stir frying the veg, chicken and/or raw prawns. When cooked to your liking, stir in a couple of tbsp. of green or red pasta. Add a little double cream, heat through and then add 120 gms. ( cooked weight) wholewheat spaghetti, which I have previously cooked, frozen then cooked rapidly from frozen in boiling water for a few minutes. A sprinkle of Parmesan, if desired finishes it off. This has little harmful effect on my BG.

Be very careful about pasta - some people still digest it even with all the freezing - it made no difference to me.

@Jodee meant to say the protein pasta which doesn’t spike my blood is Asda’s own brand. Penne is the only type they do

It’s white coloured but has lots of fibre added to it- as mentioned before you can cook, cool and reheat or freeze but if you test before & 2 hours after you’ll see if you get a spike (I don’t). If you do you can check after cooking & reheating. It’s all about what affects individually & I experiment with my monitor. Hope it works for you!

Is that per slice? If so it compares well with Burgen at 11.8 carbs.

No it is 50 gm per slice, so two slices are just under 8gm of carbs
