Pasta in Italy

Agreed, but there is an advantage to seeing a picture if you can't weigh things - not near scales, out, etc.,

As an aside I wonder how accurately people (in general) can judge volume from a picture, easier without sauces/mixed ingredients that's for sure 🙂

I have my pictures in my head and can estimate the carbs pretty accurately. You too, I guess. Type 1s get very good at eyeing up plates of food!

Indeed, though that would also mean trying to work out what a standard size plate is as Carbs and Cals doesn't appear to say anywhere - even the "standard" bit I may be mis-remembering as I can't find that mentioned anywhere....
There’s an ask a question option in the app

I always had that with the age-old rule of thumb, that a “hen’s egg sized potato” was 10g carbs. I’ve often been seen squinting at a collection of peeled spuds trying to work out how many hen’s eggs there might be there in front of me… two and a half in that one… is that three or four…? I’ll need to cut that bit out, so one and a half…??!?

All great advice. In Sicily the simplest things might be some sharing with your companions and/or asking half of one and half of another of behalf of the baby.

Made me laugh because I just made a Spanish omelette and my allegedly extra large eggs seemed quite small....
