My 30 year old son has type 2 which he takes Metformin. He also has to inject insulin as he doesn't use any of the insulin he produces himself. He has high blood pressure and only one kidney. He has been told he has to go back to work in a supermarket. Should he be shielding? Should he have had a letter from NHS about this? Grateful for any advice

Having diabetes alone doesn‘t automatically put a person in the ‘clinically extremely vulnerable’ group, but you might want to check with your son’s GP, as individual cases may have more complex overlapping factors which make them more vulnerable.
