Hi, I got a papercut on thursday when opening a box across the top of two of my fingers (above the knuckle)

In the past I've not even thought about them and they usually heal (or I am not aware of them) straight away. But these two haven't healed and are now all red around the actual cut and pretty tender to touch.

I know the DN told me about keeping an eye on my feet now I'm diabetic but does the same apply to hands?

thanks for the advice (as always)

I believe cuts etc can take a little longer to heal. I had some dental work recently and the bleeding definitely took longer to stop than previously. As it is red and tender to the touch, it sounds as though it could be slightly infected. Maybe have a word with your pharmacist and see if they can recommend anything, otherwise I'd speak to GP.

I agree with GG - any time a cut shows any sign of inflammation, it ain't a good sign! Might not be anything to do with D but rather what was in or on the paper - plus were your hands absolutely clean when you did it?

I usually heal pretty much OK, however if you don't it's usually a good sign your BG has been a bit too high for a bit too long - and if that is the case, you need to get that sorted pdq otherwise anything you do to yourself - whether it's done accidentally like this or in sterile surroundings like a surgical procedure - will have the same problem.

Hi, Just to be on the safe side it's best to get it checked out at your gp practice, paper cuts can be quite sore but it sounds to me that their might be a bit of infection there.

as the skin heals and starts to close it can look very inflamed. because the cuts are on the knuckle they tend to want to split each time you flex. so i assist healing i suggest you use plasters and a moisturiser a couple of times a day. the plasters will stop the cuts from flexing. Any infection will cause the wounds to weep and the joint to be hot and painful. wound healing for diabetics is always slower if the blood sugars are running hi. Most minor wounds should heal in 7/10 days

Better safe then sorry keep an eye on it and get your to gp if it starts itching or becoming inflamed. On a side note I have an open wound on my shin that both hospital staff and my nurse saw and said nothing
