I MUST go up to see my Mum tomorrow. She lives 130 miles away. As I will be away tomorrow I therefore phoned 111 at lunchtime today because I've developed a raised area at the back of my calf which is very painful to touch. Within less than hour of the 111 call I was given an injection of blood thinner with a prescription for two more injections on Sunday and Monday. At 9am Monday I've got to phone the DVT clinic for a scan either Monday or Tuesday. If they can't do the scan on Monday my GP needs to give me a prescription for the blood thinner. The nurse was being cautious and also said that there was a possibility that it might be cellulitis. So I've just got to be fast to react if there are any new developments. I really could do without this at the moment.

Sorry to hear this I hope it turns out in the end you have not got a DVT, and you don't develop cellulitis. Take care.

Sorry to hear this Amanda. Hope the medication does the job and its nothing serious.

Another challenge to overcome when you have more than enough to contend with at the moment AJ. Made me think of this saying;

Hard Times Are Like a Washing Machine, They Twist, Turn and Knock Us Around, But In The End we Come Out Cleaner, Brighter and Better Than Before

Anonymous

Like you Amanda, sometimes I feel like I'm permanently on a fast spin! 😱 Hope it's nothing serious.

Thank you everyone.
Amigo I wish we could both change from fast spin and jump out of the washing machine to being brighter and better than before.

Hope you feel better soon AJ. Love the quote amigo

Doesn't it always happen just before you have a commitment? If you call your visit off and explain why - you'll only upset your mum and start her fretting (if she's anything like mine) and if you don't explain she'll get equally upset and also annoyed with you to boot! You're in between a rock and a hard place here.
Should you wear your compression socks (if you have any) for the journey - just in case - and try to keep your feet raised during your visit? I can remember visiting my mum time and time again when I felt like death warmed up, just so as not to upset her - and equally NOT visiting when I had a really bad cold only to find she was telling her friends I 'never visited'.
Good luck for the outcome, I do hope its just a little local infection and nothing serious. 🙂

Thank you Carol and BBarb. I'm glad I got up to Mum's today because she was told on Monday that she has untretable lung cancer. It was really good to see her and Dad. Now on the long journey home and will phone the DVT clinic first thing tomorrow morning.

Sorry Mum has unreadable lung cancer.

Awful...what a nightmare for you...you got treated quickly and the nurse was right to exercise caution...I've had both cellulitis and a DVT the problem is they both have very similar symptoms...I sincerely hope you have neither...you have enough on your plate...so very sorry to hear about your mother...safe journey home...and fingers crossed for some better news tomorrow.
