Ozempic.... Hmmm

It is not a quick fix I would be hoping for. It is worrying.
I agree, I dropped a lot of weight on it and haven’t regained any of it but my diabetes is so unstable, they don’t publish that you can’t have it if you have had a eating disorder or if you have had stomach surgery, these reasons were why I was taken off it .

Is Ozempic licensed for weight loss now? I don’t think it was to begin with (and I thought it was Wegovy that NICE had recently aporoved).

Off label weight loss prescription is certainly identified as part of the reason for the current supply-issues on this page by DUK

“The NHS is currently facing supply issues with glucagon-like peptide receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs), a range of drugs used for managing blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes.

The global shortage in supply is partly due to a surge in off label prescriptions of the drug semaglutide being issued for weight loss which is outstripping supply.”

Not aware of it but think wegovy has upped interest but could be partly to do where they are manufactured? Would be interesting to know.

That is my worry if not prescribed do we know what we are taking ? Then if it is do we know how our bodies really react. I lost weight initially going on low carb then it slowed. I have since took medication prescribed and its really wobbling . It is not going lower as these drugs might do but are they worth it with all these side effects?

I know and can see exactly where your coming from, it can be so scary, that’s why I volunteer now so I can learn more before accepting treatment and the DUK phone line team are amazing, cannot rate the team enough if your every worried or need to talk x

Thanks , I think they have had enough of me already. They are good but work in hand with NHS . The give out information and are really good. I've not been prescribed anything like Ozempic. i am not sleeping well , not got the energy that low carb brags about i have lost weight but its like a drunken sailor . i lose 4 stay hanging for a week or more then down one more hang on again lose 2 more then another two and hang on again for a few weeks then down six no reason then stay same again.
Bmmols came crashing down i feared I might go hypo only not gone below 3 and have staggered between 6 an 9 and fear i will not get Good Hb A1c. The dawn phenomena seems to always prepare for an army day.
But I hate this med as my outlook is always a muddy puddle everyone keeps stirring it. I need rose coloured glasses. I am much too sensitive

It’s so difficult especially if you have other complications or our bodies just don’t respond to what usually helps others, can be so frustrating and gut wrenching at times .
How are you feeling today? I am hoping to see an endocrinologist soon as hospital took away my insulin gun june, feel so sluggish and yuck since they stopped it. Sending you positive thoughts x

When you say insulin "gun" you don't mean that metal thing that looked like a skeleton of a pistol. There was a lady on my DAFNE course who had been diabetic for 50 years and was stillusing one of those. She brought it in to show us. It turned out that over time the calibration had deteriorated and it was no longer giving her consistent doses and was almost certainly responsible for the very severe nocturnal hypos she had been experiencing for many years often involving paramedics and also causing the erosion of her hypo awareness. She had put her trust in this device because it had been delivering her live saving insulin for most of her life and had resisted changing to pen injectors because she trusted it, but her trust was misplaced as it turned out as the mechanism had worn over the years and probably hundreds of thousands of injections. Anyway, just thought I would mention it when I saw your description of an "insulin gun" in case it may be relelvant to your experience with insulin when using it and potentially causing erratic results for you too in the past.

Hi no sorry, my poor brain is protesting, I middle words up due to ischaemia damage and perimenopause brain fog. They took my insulin away, is not a old fashioned device like you mentioned, they stopped my treatment as I went into dka and also had potassium imbalance, refusing to re start anything until endocrinology have reviewed things, am type 2 and look to be heading towards type 3c due to pancreatitis issues, had a flare start while in hospital.
Sorry for confusion caused and really appreciate your reply!

I think there is a whole lot more than diabetes that changes blood sugars. Yes health too. Glad you get to see a specialist. Sorry you feel so bad . All the best thanks for the support. I hope you get something to make you feel better soon.
