I was diagnosed Type 2 in April and have just had my 6th month review...my overall number has dropped from 56 to 49! I'm really happy with this as I've managed to also loose over 15kg in weight and my blood pressure has dropped. Only comment from the doctor (as told by surgery reception) is "improved". However, he's not felt it necessary to speak to me...honestly should I be asking more at now at 6th month review or wait until April 2025?
Doctor is not now pushing statins (which I'm overjoyed about) and I'm still on blood pressure pills (hey ho and all that).
I'm just going to continue what I've been doing...changed diet and doing exercise.

Looks like you're doing fine so keep going and hopefully you'll see a further drop in the HbA1c in April. Have you done that with or without meds? Weight loss, a low carb diet and being more active worked for me (and still does).

For the record, my GP hasn't discussed my diabetes with me since the day I was diagnosed. All my contact with the surgery since then has been through their DNs.

Thank you. Yes no meds other than blood pressure.
Good to know that the measures I've taken have worked for you too.
I think going forward I'll deal more with the DNs than the GP - think I'm lucky that my GP's has really good DN's.

Many congratulations on your great HbA1c reduction and impressive weight loss and good luck with continued progress.

The diabetes trained nurse at GP practices often have more understanding of diabetes management than GPs, so if you are getting checks and encouragement and support from them, then that is all you need..... along with the hardest bit which is putting in the work and effort yourself of course! 😳 Well done on your excellent achievement!

Thank you so much.

Congratulations @Yorkie it's always good to know that all your efforts and hard work are paying off. As posted by others you are now so close to being in the pre-diabetic range that remission is a realistic goal. Hopefully as you continue to lose weight and your BG falls it will also reduce your BP.

Thank you so much. I'm feeling positive about the pre-diabetic range approaching and remission...

Great stuff @Yorkie

You have every right to feel very pleased with your progress. Great news on the weight loss! Keep doing what you are doing!

Congrats Yorkie, you did great

Sorry just seen your reply to me...my annual review has just been moved from tomorrow to next week. Did everything without meds...weight has not moved up or down since December! Continued with the change in diet and being more active (although that was difficult in the cold weather)
Find it interesting that your GP has not discussed with you...most of my contact is with Senior Practice Nurse Team

Nothing to discuss, I assume, as my T2 has been back in its box for getting on for 6 years. Should things start to go awry I'll book an eConsult and (presumably) that will result in a GP appointment to discuss how we move forward, eg back onto meds.

I had a diabetes test last June at my request having seen an hcp about increasing cholestral. I've had a blood test annually to review my high blood pressure since 2007. Since 2010 it has been a nurse who are always too busy or lack knowledge to answer questions. GPs don't deal with chronic conditions. I wish I had been more proactive. If I had appreciated low carb diets having grown up with calorie counting or Fplan I may have lost weight years ago and not become diabetic
I'm a little jealous of those with better resourced surgeries but this forum has given me information and support.
