Type 2
I have been type 2 for more than 6 years. To cut a long story short, my most pressing concern is weight.
My blood sugar is well controlled. I have CKD and that is one of the causes of lower legs swelling. My Doctor is not happy to continue water tablets as they effect the kidneys.
I weigh 108Kg at less than 2 metres height. I have not managed to reduce this for 2 years.
I find that after a 10 minute normal walking, I have problems breathing and have to stop and rest.
What are the actions to focus on to help this specific problem/s

Have you asked your GP to refer you to an exercise programme. Some are run by physios, others by physical activity instructors, usually at gyms / swimming pools, often with reduced price entry tickets, often supplied as council contributions to public health.
Can you do several 10 minutes walks in a day? That way you would probably gradually build up to 11, 12, 15 minutes at a time.
Can you swim? Or do aqua jogging? You would need a float to strap to your waist at the back, but then would get the same actions as waling, with added water resistance and it's non weight bearing.

Well done on getting your blood numbers into shape.

To be completely frank, when I was diagnosed, I didn't up my exercise at all, aside from parking a little further from my destination (for example maybe one or two isles further up in the supermarket carpark, or the like). I lost weight anyway, when I got my numbers into good shape.

For many T2s, their condition can be quite complex, with other things thrown into the mix, as you have not with your CKD. What sort of things are you actually eating, and what sort of eating plans/patterns do you follow? Do you take any medication for your

I know for me, not all calories are equal, and some things impact upon me more than others. I know it sounds bonkers, but I lost weight without trying by modifying the things I ate. Whilst that was primarily for blood score control, the trimming up also helped - except in my wallet, which took a hefty kicking, over time!

Focus on what you can do, not what you can't. You can walk for 10 minutes. That's good. Walk for 10 minutes once or twice a day, every day. Record how you feel, see if you can notice any improvement in your breathing after a few days. Try adding an extra minute every other time or try to walk a little faster for short bursts. You will be surprised at how much progress you can make. Also, don't worry about weight loss to start with, focus on the fitness aspect. The weight loss will come anyway by being more active - as long as you don't eat more to compensate!

I think you probably need medical advice and/or qualified help, but it is best to do short amounts spread over the day. A short walk a few stretches, some dancing, whatever you enjoy in small amounts spread over the day will help you and then slowly build it up. I have recently been advised we need a minimum of one minutes activity in any hour.

I am quite unfit too due to medical reasons and trying to build my fitness up too. My aim is for an hours activity a day spread over the day, so 10 minutes carpet cleaning, 10 minutes hanging the washing, a 5 minute walk to the shop for milk or a news paper, 10 minutes playing catch with the family, jigging/dancing to a favourite song on the radio, It all adds up. The main thing is you do what you feel comfortable with and build on it from there. Try to find things you will enjoy doing as well as things that need doing
