The BG reading of 23 is not an immediate worry if your ketone levels are low but longer term you don't want to have levels in the 20s for months on end. I hit 27 one night before I got insulin and spent all night drinking pint after pint of water and got it down to 22 by morning, but I alternated between the kitchen to top up my glass and the toilet to empty my bladder all night and I felt pretty knackered by the next morning, not least because my heart had been thumping like a steam train all night! High BG levels are not fun but it's the ketones you really need to worry about, as they make the situation an emergency, so it is good that yours are just 0.2. Do keep testing because they can just suddenly start to develop.
As we have already discussed, we can all see that you do have several red flags for Type 1 and age has nothing to do with it so your nurse (and GP) clearly have limited knowledge of diabetes. It is a common misconception amongst doctors re Type 1 being a childhood condition, so if you are a mature adult they assume it must be Type 2. As a result of their lack of knowledge, I would agree that you would not want those tests (GAD and C-pep) done by your GP/nurse as they do not have the knowledge to do the tests correctly or interpret the results and the tests are unfortunately not always a clear positive or negative, so it really needs to be overseen by an experienced diabetes consultant.
