diagnosed march 2010 type 2, and advice, first was join here and second was don't panic, joined here, great idea, but i still panic 🙂

Diagnosed January 2010 and the best advice was........... watch out for them carbs

I was diagnosed in May 2008 after being admitted to hospital with DKA. Probably the best thing I did was to sign up for an Open University short course called 'Diabetes Care' which gave me a good understanding about diabetes generally and also how care (should be!) delivered under the NHS 🙂

Joining here has also helped enormously, of course! 🙂

Not advice from anyone, but the best thing I realised soon after diagnosis was that as the diabetes team I first encountered were no use to me - I don't think they knew what to say to an active 30 year old with main aims in life that didn't involve having children, not least because I didn't have a partner then - was to "trust my own instincts".

Gradually, over the years, I met friends, colleagues, health professional who I could trust - and many confirmed my initial instincts to live as active and interesting life as possible. Which includes sensible testing, injecting, eating, activity etc.

1999 for me, at the tender age of 15..............

Advice, that's a tough one, I suppose not letting the Diabetes control your life, focusing so hard on preserving a healthy body can sometimes result in missing out in the use of it.........🙂
