Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Good Morning.

I went to see the Oye Legge (Eye doctor in Norwegian) yesterday. It was a follow on app from last year when I had been referred by my optician after he dedected I had high IOP readings. The eye doctor discovered that I had very thick corneas which were giving a false high reading. Since that last appointment, I was diagnosed with diabetes and he didn't know that. He was a bit annoyed, that my doctor hadn't written to tell him as all this was news to him. However, I did a peripheral eye test, had drops put into my eyes which turned them yellow and my pupils looked so weird as they were so dilated!! He thoroughly examined my eyes and the good news is that my IOP has gone down dramatically since last year (due to lowered blood glucose), eyesight in general has improved and he told me I was fine. Have to go back in a year's time for a check up but it just goes to show the damage elevated blood sugars can cause.

Glad to hear of the great improvement Donna 🙂 Just wondering, if Oye Legg means eye doctor, does that mean that Doctor Legg in Eastenders was a Doctor Doctor? :D

Hi Donna that's fantastic news I'm really pleased for you. My doctors have never mentioned a relationship between IOP and BGs and to be honest my BGs don't appear to have a relationship with my IOP. But I am thrilled for you that things have worked out so well

I am glad all is well with your eyes. Must admit when my eyes aren't fuctioning as they should because I have been naughty or I need to sleep I am a miserable (naughty word) because i find it difficult to read or use the puter.

Hi Caroline,

When I was first diagnosed, my levels were so much higher but I was oblivious. I did get blurry eyes from time to time and my previous eye appointments had shown high IOP. When I was prescribed Metformin and changed my diet considerably, the changes to my eyesight were both scary and revealing. I went through the major blurriness and not being to see the computer without glasses which had been unheard of before.

Since being diagnosed, it's really made me sit up and listen to the diet police. I had never realised, how damaging sugar (especially hidden one's) were to your health. More and more health reports are coming out on the side of fats as opposed to sugar. I must admit, I still can't believe that you can lose weight eating fat as I'd been taught the very opposite all my life.

Just wondering how long it will be before another health scare hits the headlines?

Donna 🙂
