Went to see Harry Potter last night and went a bit nuts with the pic 'n' mix! What the best way to deal with naughty treats like this, would you inject before you start tucking in or do as I did and wait until bed time to correct it? Woke up with a 8.4 which I didn't think was too bad!

Not sure if my opinion counts a I take the pills, but I think I'd be inclined to test and correct later.

Not sure how close bedtime was to the pick 'n' mix. Assuming you came straight home from the flicks, I'd test and correct then - not wait till bedtime. Trouble with doing that (if there is a gap between the two) is that your BG will have been high a while, won't it?

On the assumption you have your basal 'bang-on' there's a hefty amount of sugar sitting in your blood for however long .... cos it sure ain't slow-acting carb, is it? LOL Meanwhile your basal - which is sposed to only take care of your liver your lungs and your lights (etc) will have been trying to cope alone with both which in my book means neither is getting enough insulin. It isn't intelligent enough to say, I will ignore the sweeties and just work to rule, is it? LOL

And me personally, I would like to preserve me innards as long as poss, thereby enabling me to repeat an evening with/without sweeties (popcorn is my bete noir!) at the cinema well into the future .....

I would probably have anticipated snacking and injected a couple of units before gong in, knowing how much I can safely eat, then test after and see if I need to correct, keeping in mind the stacking effect of insulin if you inject not long after the last one.

As Trophywench says, it's a risky business allowing the BGs to go too high more than once in a blue moon and far better to get into the habit of keeping them somewhere near range when you can. There's no knowing if you'll get away with it or not until you get the bad symptoms. I used to be far too realxed about it but now see every day without complications as a bonus.

Thanks for the reality check. I ate them over a period of 2 hours and checked my levels as soon as I got home (which is about 2mins from cinema) at about 10:30pm. Next time I will take insulin before I start scoffing or just won't bother to buy any.
Thanks for your help, it's given my another boost to really knuckle down with this.
