Thank heavens they have decided to go ahead and start me on insulin tomorrow in spite of my recent adventures. I really hope this works.

Good luck Alison - Hope it works well for you as well x

I hope it works for you, and that it is because you are getting better.

Fingers crossed for you Alison!

Thanks everyone, I don't think I could get through all this without your support. I'm not expecting miracles from this but I really hope it'll help me get better control, I dream of 'normal' numbers, it'd be better than winning the lottery. I have the details now, I'm starting out on 10 units of Humulin I (1)? The DSN is supposed to show me how to dial the dosages and change the cartridge (if that's the kind of injector they have available). I wonder how quickly it will take effect? I'm apparently supposed to stay up after the first jab tomorrow night and monitor my bags every two hours. Lucky I'm signed off till Monday eh?

Hope that it gets your numbers into something you are more happy with Alison 🙂

If I can get them to stay between 5 and 8 I'll be a very happy Ally.

Check out its action in the 2011 chart of insulins from DiABETES uK...
https://www.diabetes.org.uk/upload/How we help/catalogue/Meds and Kit 2011.pdf

It is delivered by a beige Kwikpen according to this so it should be easy to do.

It's an Intermediate Insulin whose Peak action is over by 8 hours - it'll keep you in order during the night but what about the day ? What will you do when you eat ? Will you eventually need 2 injections of this per day ?

This is just step one and my numbers do seem to improve during the day, at least a little bit, probably because I'm pretty active. The plan is to start out with the nighttime jab and add a fast acting daytime regime when they see what effect the long acting stuff has. I'll be having another lot of blood tests to establish how much insulin I'm still producing on my own, there's clearly still more than the average T1. I think they plan to take the blood for that tomorrow.

good luck alison, i hope it works out well for you 🙂

The very best of luck to you Alison. Hope it all works out well. Katiex

im crossing my fingers for you. good luck

Just had a quick catch up with whats going on with you! Congrats on starting insulin, I am sure you will find it such a relief! My biggest problem in the end was also high numbers at night usually following dinner which sent me high. Do your levels stay high on their own or will they typically come down after say 3-5hrs?

Let us know how it goes! And also if you want to know anything LADA-wise give us a PM 🙂

All the best Alison x hope your feeling better

Good luck - I hope it gives you the results you want 🙂
