Relationship to Diabetes

Be a part of the change! :D

To those who have helped out on this before, thank you so much, this is one final push to get a few more willing participants.

I am a Type 1, and also a postgraduate student at the University of Derby. I am undertaking research in Diabetes distress and stigma to determine if it has any impact on our diabetes self care 1.If you are 18 years or older, 2. are resident in the UK and 3. have a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes, I hope you will consider taking part in my online research. Participation is completely anonymous and it should take no more than about 15 minutes of your time.

Please click on the link below if you are willing to contribute to furthering research and treatment outcomes in diabetes.

I read the title and thought it was a maternity related post! :D
LOL. Too true, I didn't think of that. It can be hard to get people to consider taking part in research so it helps to have a catchy title to get people to have a look.

Why don’t they do studies for type 3c.?
Hi. I cant answer for sure why they are not researching it more but possibly because in relation to the other types it is not very common and not very well known. It has really only been the last 20 to 30 years that the other types have been so heavily researched and then it has also been more so for type 2 than any of the others as this is the type that most affects cost to the various medical systems, in my opinion. Even for my study, I was limited to type 2 as at the time of development for my study there was only a scale for stigma in type 2, the type 1 scale was still under development, however same complications that occur for other types of diabetics (type 1 and type 2) may occur for type 3c diabetes. These include retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy, and cardiovascular disease. You are more than welcome to take my study as the same things that affect you will affect type 2 in many respect. I hope this makes some kind of sense?

I have taken part in your study although I would not classify myself as a pure type 2. I have been diagnosed with autoimmune pancreatitis and diabetic as a result. I have recently become insulin dependent and also depend on Creon supplement for digestion since AIP diagnosis three years ago.
I would agree with you that whatever type.two or three there are many factors common to all. As you say type 3c is not very common but I believe that is because we are misdiagnosed or classed as type 2.
Good luck with your research

They need to diagnose diabetes to a strict set of guidelines. If you suffer a pancreatic injury (your pancreas bursts through a car crash etc...) you weren’t diabetic before but since are therefore you are type 3c. If you have pancreatic surgery same situation you are type 3c.

Hi
Yes I totally agree

I would like to thank all of you whom have taken part in my research, this study will only be running for another week so I will leave it up till then.

This thread will be running till Monday so if any of you have the time over the weekend it would be great to get a few more respondents, I need about 8 to reach my minimum amount of participants. I know it takes a bit of time and it can be a bit annoying to answer questions but it would be a great help.Thanks.
