On tresiba, high after breakfast, low at 3 am, help!

If you are worried about the Libre with aqua aerobics or swimming, it is fine I believe and similarly in the shower or bath. Some people have even done scuba diving with them and not had a problem.

My lifestyle is not routine enough to cope with Tresiba. I need the flexibility of being able to vary my basal according to the activity of the day, how much fat and protein I have eaten for my evening meal (I follow a low carb high fat way of eating) and even my bedtime reading.
I suspect that split dose Levemir may not have worked for you because either, you didn't experiment enough with the individual doses of the spilt (ie more in the morning and less at night) OR it is a bolus timing issue on a morning and not a basal issue at all OR probably a combination of the two.
If you find the Tresiba is not flexible enough for your lifestyle then don't be frightened to go back to the Levemir and experiment with splitting the dose, particularly once you get that breakfast bolus timing sorted, but hopefully fixing that....ideally with the help of Libre... will sort your problems.

Thanks for the link trophywench.
Thanks Barbara as well. It has occurred to me that I may have to go back to twice daily Levemir.
This morning my blood sugar was 4.2 when I got up. I had my insulin 45 mins before breakfast. My blood sugar went up to 12.5 after 2 hours. Believe me, that's the lowest rise for years. So I'm going to persist and hope this continues. xxx

I know it takes a bit of bottle to prebolus that much in advance, particularly when your fasting reading is at the low end of the scale but once you start to see more consistent results it gives you confidence to continue with it. Are you testing during that pre bolus period to see what your BG is doing? I hope so. If you had Libre, you would be able to see when the insulin starts to kick in and use that as the point to start eating.
I was having the same problem and my consultant sanctioned Libre just before the lockdown, but I have to go on a course before it is prescribed so I haven't got it yet. I decided that I would finger prick and test more frequently until I get the LIbre and my control has improved dramatically doing about 10-12 tests a day.
Not sure if you are aware of the Libre but the huge advantage of it is that it has a direction of travel arrow which shows you if your levels are steady, rising or falling gently or rising or falling dramatically and you can base your decisions on that info rather than a finger prick every few hours which could be anywhere on the graph and going up or coming down. It is a really great bit of kit.

Pleased to read that you are seeing an improvement as a result of advice.

Hello folks, just wanted to update you. My blood glucose is much better since I followed all the advice you gave me on this thread. I've been doing the morning quick acting as soon as I get up, and waiting half an hour until breakfast. Although my results still go up it's not nearly as bad as it was.
I'm also not worrying about the rise, as others on here mentioned that it's not unusual and may be partly the dawn phenomenon. I've been more careful about assessing food portions and that's helping as well.
Just wanted to say thank you again to all of you for the advice and suggestions. I'm so much happier and I think my Hb A1C is going to be a lot better, if we ever manage to get tests again at some stage in the future. I'll think about the Libre at that stage.
Best wishes to all of you xx

Good! It is all about persevering really. Just have to be patient, keep calm and carry on …. still easier said than done!

Great news. Well done!
