For all of you fortunate to live in the glorious land of Booths supermarkets I have found in our local shop some LOW GI bread sold under their own name. It's a small brown loaf and marked up at 9g carbohydrate a slice.

Had a slice this morning toasted at breakfast and my 1.5hrs after was lower than my pre breakfast BG (5.4 from 5.7). Would normally expect a rise to around 7 and the bread was the only thing I had changed from my regular breakfast. Used to have Bergen but since that disappeared I have been having a slice from a small wholemeal.

So it seems to do what it says on the packet, at least for me.

If they don't have it in Farm Foods then forget it. :D We don't even have a Waitrose, we're not posh enough.

Hovis nimble which is 8.1g per slice can be found in just about all supermarkets

possibly but there are those that don't have supermarkets

After reading a post I got Hovis low carb bread to try. It is fine toasted. I hadn't seen it in any supermarket, but I do most of my shopping online now and ordered it that way, no problem.

Hi Bob
My wrapper says Hovis Lower Carb seeded loaf. It is a 400gm loaf. There are also wholemeal and white versions on my NutraCheck website, but I got mine from Sainsbrys online. I have also tried Hovis Nimble, Warburtons wholemeal and WW wholemeal which are all 400gm loaves, and each is around 8gm per slice, whereas the Lower carb is over 9gm but is a bigger slice. I get what is available at the time and freeze it.

I've just been in our Tesco (Sale) and couldn't find any Nimble or lower carb bread. I asked a fella and he was exceedingly helpful and took me over to the fancy/foreign aisle. If you're gluten free you're laughing but I couldn't find anything to buy for me and ended up having two thick slices of bloomer as I had it in my head I was having a ham sarnie for lunch and couldn't be deflected. 🙄

Fella said he hadn't seen Nimble for years. I shall try our Sainsbury's, I've not been in there, well once for a chicken, as it's too posh and expensive for me. :D Got my scan tomorrow and Mum's hair appt Wednesday so that'll be Thursday then. It's all go. 😉

I've been told it's a fairly new product from Hovis, I suppose it's easy for me to find as I live close to big supermarkets, I got it in Morrisons with no problem

Hi Felinia
I've just checked the wrapper on mine and all it says is Hovis nimble wholemeal no mention of it being low carb but when I checked the carbs it read 8.1g per slice

I thought Hovis lower carb had been around for a couple of years.

Nimble's been around for years though hasn't it? Remember the balloon girl adverts back in the day and the Wallace & Gromit "A Matter Of Loaf And Death"? :D

It used to be sold as bread for slimmers back in the 70 s, but was full of air.

sainsburys do a weight watchers one which is fairly low and nice for sandwiches as well as toast. B&M do Danish Crackers (blue wrapper) which are lovely with cheese and just over 5g each.

I have always found the Nimble wholemeal in Tesco, they seem to be the most reliable. I have also had it in Asda; Sainsburys; ( sometimes ) Morrisons. It has been out for at least 18 months, because that is how long I have been eating it, maybe a bit longer.

@Ditto if you’re in Sainsbury’s check out HiLo - it’s my bread of choice since Lidl stopped the protein rolls (no still not forgiven! 🙄). It is expensive but 5 carbs per slice and it’s high protein too which I like. I’ve a few loaves in my freezer as I don’t normally shop there

Thanks, will check that out asap. 🙂
