downside, ive decided to still go to work lol. am i a fool? i think so.

Hi Estellaa I hope that your chest infection clears up soon. Glad to hear benefits of diabetes re the antibiotics

Hope you are feeling much better soon Estellaa 🙂 Must be a busy time of year for you where you work!

oh gawd don't get me started haha. im not looking forward to working xmas eve, boxing day and new years day + eve most likely :( x

Hi . no your not a fool , On my DAFNE course the trainer said that most T1 do go to work when feeling ill , I agree I often go when not feeling great , guess we dont like to give in to T1 ,,,,,,

Sorry Estella - I've rarely done it myself, but then I got paid if I was off sick. But mostly spent winters sat in offices almost alone, because other people have come in and spread their germs/viruses round a cast of thousands whose doctors won't give em a flu jab.

It really annoyed me then and it really annoys me now ...... why the hell should we have to work doubly hard through a quirk of fate giving us a condition that makes us healthier than most people?

So, if I have been occasionally ill myself - I have stayed away until I'm better!

Hope you feel better soon.

I've still got the tail end of a chest infection after a week on antibiotics. When it started I thought it was the flu as I had a high temp for about 5 days, by the 7th day of coughing my guts up and feeling like c**p I had to force myself to go to the GP. He did the usual tests, blood pressure, pulse, listened to my chest and said "You can either try some strong antibiotics or go straight to hospital" because my breathing was so poor. There's not a chance I could have gone to work. I was bed bound for about 4 days, hardly being able to move. Luckily these antibiotics have done the trick and now feel 90% better. Still got this cough to shake off though.

Hope you feel better soon.🙂

Diabetic or not, if you dont feel up for it, dont go, if you do, go...........

Hope you feel better soon............

Think of the money..........😉

As well as considering your own health, there's also the responsibility of keeping your germs to yourself - particularly, for example, not coughing over people with weakened immune systems or physical mobility problems eg if working with patients in hospital or care work in private homes. In a shop, for example, can probably limit spread of germs with careful use of and disposal of tissues, handwashing, hand gels etc.

For example, among other jobs, I do care work and country park rangering, sometimes on the same day. If I had a cold and didn't feel too bad, I will work in the park, as it's outdoors and I'm not in close contact with any people; but I wouldn't take the same cold to potentially infect a severely disabled friend.
