Have been on another "prazole" tablet for years but now need something stronger for reflux so have been switched to Omeprazole.

Started taking it last Tuesday and over the weekend really upset stomach but I just could not figure out why. Even suspected the water at one stage because my diet is fine. Started reading the pamphlet last night and a side effect can be upset stomach - but I am not sure if I should ask to be taken off it or if it will settle down in time.

I do remember I was on Losec years and years ago and had to switch to the other one, think it was Rabeprozole but it was so long ago can't remember exactly why Losec did not agree with me. Have changed GP surgery since then, not GP as I followed from one surgery to another, but the notes are archived.

Any advice?

I would certainly give your doctor a phone to seek their advice on it...

It maybe that you need to reduce the dose to start off with then increase to the correct amount or may need changing to something different again..

I was omeprazole but didn't get on with it so changed to Lansaprazole several years ago. I've had no problems with Lansaprazole - I'm on 30mg each day

Hi Margb.

Omeprazole has never upset my stomach - so I suggest a chat with the GP 🙂

Have a chat with the doctor. Hubby was on omprazole for the osteoarthritis and had another tablet that was supposed to protect his stomach. In the mean time try peppermint or ginger tea bags to help settle things down a bit.

Thanks - have phoned the surgery and asked for GP to give me a call back when she can.

Doc has just phoned me - go back to the Rabeprazole and ditch the Omeprazole.

Sigh.

Thanks for your help - this forum is brilliant!

Glad you got things sorted. Yes this forum is brilliant for help and support and the sharing of ideas and knowledge.

I've been on Omeprazole for over 10 years and never had any problems with it. I would check with your doctor and see what they say.

I am beginning to think it is an ulcer. So long since I have had an active ulcer because the medication I was taking kept them under control. The Omeprazole is more for reflux than treating ulcers, I think. The nagging pain is reminiscent of the old days!

Like I said before, I have been on Losec before and had to come off but it was a long time ago and I thought that I have changed so much, maybe it would be OK. I was wrong.

I've been on Lansaprazole for some years now too with no effect but hubby takes Omeprazole and has no problems.

I was given Omeprazole as on steroids the result.............. out of hours call as could not stop vomiting. Had to fight to stay at home instead of going to hospital. After a few calls like this I checked leaflet and duumped the Omeprazole. Result no more tummy problems. I did try other tablets but same result for me. :(
