Old newby . Diagnosed a month ago as Type 2 diabetic but no surprise as diagnosed pre diabetic 57 years ago . Having to adjust my daily diet is ok. I live alone, have carers coming in three times a day and now get Wiltshire foods delivered. Just dropped in to introduce myself.

Welcome to the forum @Nannynancy

Goodness me! I think that’s the longest duration I’ve heard of living with slightly elevated glucose before it developed into T2.

However did they measure it 57 years ago? Wasn’t that all test tubes, wee, and colour-change tablets?

Prediabetes is really just a shorthand for ‘at risk of diabetes’ isn’t it. It doesn’t seem to be a specific diagnosis itself, more a collection of risk factors. I believe the term came more from changes in the ADA’s threshold for fasting glucose about 15 years ago, though it has been mentioned to several members by their HCPs in recent years.

Hi @Nannynancy and welcome from me too.

57 years ago?! Wow, that gives me loads of hope!!

Well done, that was really well controlled. You're an inspiration.

In 57 years time I'll be 110 years old. What are the chances I'll still be pre-diabetic?! Lol!

I didn’t think prediabetes even existed 57 years ago but perhaps you improved your control before they developed the diagnosis. It’s good to have you join us anyway

Hallo
interesting... always something new to uncover on these forums.
Did pre diabetes/diabetes 2 not exist because of different foods, diets etc and increased exercise then. Or did it exist and was not recognised? I certainly never heard of it in my fathers time. It was always about the risks to the heart then.
Will they ever invent a jab to help those at risk from dabetes 1 or 2. Has any research been done to this effect as I keep looking it up with no real results.
I know they are researching cancer jabs either to prevent it or altering genetics in those predisposed.

Front cover of the latest Balance ! - look it up on the DUK website.
