Hi everyone ☺️ I have just joined, I have had T2 since 2008, controlled by metformin and Exentide injection.
3 weeks ago I was rushed in to hospital with DKA and hypoglycaemia, the only thing that changed was I gave up smoking February 8th 2022. Every time I tried to give up smoking, within 2 months my sugar would go through the roof, I would then start smoking again and everything would go back to normal in a day or two. This time I will not let it beat me and I never put any weight on at all.
I tried to see a doctor but only got phone call, and the doctor uped my metformin by 1000. I couldn't get to see the doctor, so I demanded a fastening blood test, I got it a week later at 9am, at 1815hrs the same day I get a phone call from the doctor. I was told to go to my local out of hours clinic, got turned away for not having an appointment, so goes and gets Ketone test kit and test next day a Saturday.
Tested Ketone! 4 bad, my wife watched me go down hill rapidly, and my brother rushed me to A&E. Sugars 28.7 very bad Ketone 6. So 2 days, 7 bags of fluids, big bag antibiotics, 37 different needles, 2 different types of insulin, x-ray, CT scan, Ketone down to negative, bloods down to 17.3.
So now still T2, 30%soluble insulin and 70% isophane insulin dependent twice a day, 500mr Metformin, 0.6 of Liraglutide injection once a day. I'm still not smoking, I have completely changed my diet and losing weight. As off 17th July 2022 my morning Sugars are 14ish so coming down nicely, go upto 18ish though out the day and Ketone are negative.
I was told that your Ketone are the thing to watch, as high Ketone can send you into a coma and possibly death, so get a Ketone test kit, do it every day as well as your sugar.
