Type 2
I was diagnosed in March with type 2, my HbA1c was 87!! My diabetic nurse wanted to prescribe Metformin, but I chose not to have it, and do it by diet instead. Then this Covid thing happened, and I learned as much as I could. I wasn't prescribed a testing kit, so I bought one. I read lots, checked my bs with all my foods. Last month I had an appt with her, she took blood to test again. I have lost 32lbs, with diet and a little exercise. I got a phone call at home with my HbA1c results.... 😱 it has gone down to 35!!!!!!! My nurse made me laugh, she said I deserve a treat, POTATOES I cried...she just laughed. Well.... I'm glad its working....

Great news! When I was diagnosed in April I was 76 and asked the doctor to do it via diet and exercise alone, but she wasn't having any of it and put me on metformin. You've done so well going it alone with no meds, but I bet you're glad you bought that glucose monitor! They are invaluable. Hope you got your potatoes. I plan to have fish and chips when I'm down to my target weight, just once, then back to my nuts, cheese and eggs.
Keep up the fantastic work :D x

Wow, thats a fantastic turn around and a double well done on losing just over two and a quarter stone. No wonder your buzzing.

I haven't had my potatoes yet...lol. I'm going to wait until we can have a family meal with our 2 daughters and son in laws.

That's an amazing result with diet, exercise and weight loss alone - well done. Clearly you were right to decline the medication. Get another result like that after six months and the NHS considers that to be remission.

oh really..... i will try my hardest then. I do look at some foods and wonder if I should give them a go 'just once', but now I know that, i'm not going to 😉

Wow, that is amazing and well done for standing your ground re the metformin. I, like many people was put on it straight away. No discussion, just told I was diabetic, here is the prescription and goodbye.Didn't really have a clue what was going on. Have learnt loads since then. Well done again

Wow, that is a fabulous result, well done you. :D

Huge "CONGRATULATIONS!" Fantastic results all round. I hope you feel incredibly proud of yourself because you certainly deserve to be.
A nice new outfit to fit the new slimline you is a good way to reward yourself without compromising on carbs, however do be aware that new potatoes can be quite a bit lower in carbs than mature potatoes so if you are going to have some spuds don't leave it too much longer and treat yourself to a few new potatoes before they are out of season.

When you do get the potatoes, be prepared to be disappointed. I accidentally got a roasted potato along with my roasted swede and it tasted awful.

Enjoy your spuds, we are all different, and for me potatoes are one of the things I do not want to give up completely. Reduce portion size, reduce frequency of eating them, but always a big treat for me.

Swede - just about OK, but spuds - yumm!

Fantastic results.

Fabulous result @Peeny

You have every right to feel very proud of yourself!

I'm holding off on new clothes just yet...want to lose a little more before I buy anything. I didn't know that about the new potato thing...thank you.
