They want to reveal how Amelia faces going blind every time she takes to the stage because she suffers from diabetes.

She has to have four injections a day and regulate her insulin levels before she goes on stage because the rush of performing could spark a fit and leave her blind.

It has been known for several years now, that X-Factor is fast losing it's public appeal and for quite a few series there's been a story or two spread around to boast ratings on Saturday night..

It seems that both contestant and the production company will stoop to any level to get a vote as votes means money and/or fame.. Which is pretty sick indeed...

Now who is the young lad in America, who once he established his career then told the world that in fact he was diabetic? And now does a lot of awareness promotion work for the JDF via his music career..

Now that's the way it supposed to be done, you achieve first then say about the hurdles you jumped over, not request the hurdles to be lowered because!


I've never watched X-Factor as my point of full it's a load of old tosh.. So if they go through with it please let me know when the clip is on, so that I can write and complain

You're probably thinking of that Jonas brother. On American Idol there was Crystal Bowersox, a Type 1 pumper who got hospitalised with DKA half way through the series. She ended up coming second but was by far and away the most talented performer on the show and now helps raise awareness. On the show it was discussed about her diabetes, but never really as a sob story. To be fair to Amelia, I really think all these tabloid stories are nothing to do with her, much more likely the XFactor production people exaggerating some comment she has made. She's an excellent singer so doesn't need a sob story - I think she will be successful with or without the XFactor.

to be fair to the Daily Star they are not saying Amelia risks going blind on stage as a result of a fit caused by an adrenalin rush upsetting her diabetic control.
The Daily Star is just, factually, reporting that that is the sob story the producers of x factor are going to use about her.

The original story about in the Daily Star quoted by Margie was quite interesting. She does have fits as a consequence of high blood sugars and does have to reduce her insulin dose before performing because of adrenalin disrupting control. A new aspect for diabetic performers to be aware of.

Never heard of diabetics saying that they've had fits with hight levels, only with hypo levels.. But everybody different..

I would imagine the girl in question is a bit confused about the details and then it all gets translated by the journos to whatever alternate reality they live in. By the time it's published it could be any work of science fiction.🙄

Adrenalin does cause the liver to keep squirting out glucose btu can't remember the exact process.

I'm guessing the dancing/running round the stage would lower her BGs a fair bit, so she drops her insulin to run a bit high or she'd risk a hypo. Nothing to do with the adrenalin. But she may think it is. She needs to join a forum so we can educate her.🙂

That's more like it.

I can't believe she's getting called fat. This world is a joke. And good on her for all those things she's said above....she's drawn attention to the long term affects and the importance of managing it, she's showing how things can affect it and she's hitting out about everything being blown out of proportion.

Good on her I say. She wasn't the one who came out wanting a sympathy vote, and it seems all she's getting now is grief. She's a person who has diabetes...that's all!
