I have done the most stupid thing ever

My optipen which I use to deliver Lantus has stopped working and I have no replacement. I have discovered that they are discontinued - I know, I should have noticed. No one ever asks about the pens...

I am waiting for the out of hours doctor to ring me back to tell me where I can get some kind of delivery option - hopefully before I go to bed tonight.

What are my options?

Have you not got any syringes?

no - never used them, although I'm sure I could

Not sure what to suggest, maybe when the out of hours doc rings, as if you can have an emergency script for them

Sorry I can't help

A late night pharmacy might have an autopen and cartridges?

but without a prescription? Although I might get a syringe there - off now to find out!

Hurray - nearby pharmacist on late night opening, let me have a pack of syringes. They didn't have any pens at all. I have plenty of Lantus in cartridges, so just practising how to do it - half units too!
Not impressed with my out of hours doctor though (how dare I say that when it's my fault! - I won't do that again!)
Thanks for your support!

thank you, I am very happy now! It could have been terrible, I am currently living alone in the relative outer reaches! I didn't know where the late night services were, isn't the internet wonderful. Very pleasant Spanish (?) pharmacist who couldn't have been more helpful, no charge for the syringes either. So it's all worked out very well, and a lesson for me!

Blimey! No charge? They are ?1.25 a packet to buy!

Ah, glad to hear it! Hope you are OK this morning 🙂

Glad to see you got sorted & hope the syringes were too bad

Phew! Glad it worked out so well. Must have been scary bears for a minute. 😛

Yes, bgs actually very good!

Spent large part of the morning phoning GP surgery and specialist diabetes clinic to obtain a replacement Lantus pen. GP nurse and my pharmacy very nice but neither have any supplies (even syringes) - prescription should get them both TOMORROW! Drove 20 miles to clinic where I got a Clickstar pen - seems ok.

What a palaver!! I am surprised that no-one holds any supplies, I suppose I could have gone to A&E?

Anyway, I'm ok now and I've learnt my lesson (this time!) Thank you all for your kind words I don't deserve!

Glad to hear you're OK 🙂 I would suggest you request a spare pen also, better safe than sorry! 🙂
