OK. So a little friend dropped me a line today to see how I am (thankyou - you know who you are!)🙂 Quite frankly, I seem to have lost my way somewhat and am struggling to get back on track. Since May I have completed my degree course and graduated (a First in Education), changed my job, been on holiday and had visitors to stay for the past week. My brother and family are coming on Monday for 3 weeks (they live in Spain) and I have a holiday planned in 2 weeks to celebrate my 30th Wedding Anniversary! All well and good you may say, but as a result I have well and truly dropped off the wagon, regained over half a stone of the 3 stones lost and seem to eat whatever I fancy! I am so angry with myself and know I need to get a grip. I am due my annual review at the drs and frankly am relieved they haven't sent for me yet! I rarely log on to the forum because I feel a failure and I need to muster the resolve to take a hold of myself and stop making excuses! I could do with a huge kick up the rear and a jolly good telling off!! Does anyone else out there relate to my situation? What did you do to regain the control? I feel like I need a little help from a few friends to help me to re-focus! Any words of advice greatly welcomed! Katiex😡

Congratulations on your graduation! 🙂 hopefully that will be me in 4 years!

I know exactly how you feel. It's like there is so much going on, you dont' have time for yourself, and do what is important for and to you. Sometimes there is no option than to go with the flow, and just regain control of everything when life stops being so hectic. That is, if things will calm down and stop being so manic. For me, it's when the kids go back to school in sept. For you, it could be once you are back from your holidays and your brother returns home. Unless you need to regain hold now. Then you have to make time for yourself. and that's hard.

When I am in your situation, I just ride it out until life calms down again. I am relatively newly diagnosed tho, so haven't had a hectic time since being dx.

Hope life does settlle soon for you, and you get a chance to kick back and take some time for yourself xx

Hi Doddy I could hav😡ree written exactly what you have just wri😡tten and we sound as though we are in the same place. I put off going for my annual review for as long as I could. I have just been for my annual review today. And all was not good level had gone up from 6.5 to 7.4. I had put on half a stone and my blood pressure is higher than it should be. I have to wear a moniter for 24 hours next week if blood pressure still high will have to take medication. Have to go for another review in 3 months if level hasnt gone down will have to gone on medication.

Amazing how fast it can go wrong. Diet and Exercise here we come.

We will have to encorage each other along the way

Hi Katie, you have taken the first step to getting back on the wagon, by telling us all about it, the problem shared is a problem halved.
I was in exactly the same place as you, I had stopped posting, although, I still looked in for a read from time to time.
I felt unworthy because I had let myself go. I have just been put on metformin and was really feeling down about it after being on diet and exercise for a few years.
One night I happened to log on and read a post by queenbee01 which really motivated me to do the right thing and start looking after myself properly again.
This is the beauty of this website, there is always someone who can relate to you and will offer encouragement as and when you feel the need, all you need to do is talk, you are not alone.
You have been very busy with your family and education and let time for looking after yourself slip due to that, but, now you have noticed and I don't think it will be long until you are back where you want and need to be, take care now! 😉

Thanks to you all for your support and understanding. It's good to know others have felt the same way. Doddy, your words make a lot of sense and I appreciate it. Good luck with the degree too. It's hard work in every way - especially when working full time too - but so worth it. Sheilagh, you've had a tough time and I can see you are resolved to fight back. I'll follow your example! Jimbo, thanks for the encouragement - I feel better knowing that someone understands. I am going to start to make small changes and build back up to the way things were. I'm going to try not to let my brother's visit and holiday stop me making some progress at least. It doesn't have to be all or nothing! I can walk, swim and make good choices even when away! I think I'll also book my review. Perhaps a stern talking to from the GP will help me along the way instead of avoiding the inevitable! Thank you all. 🙂

That sounds like an excellent plan Katie - as you say, it doesn't have to be all or nothing, those small 'good' choices all help! 🙂 Good luck, let us know how things go, and NEVER feel like you are a failure! Diabetes is a difficult condition to contend with and sometimes it takes a back seat, but you have recognised what you need to do and put a great plan in place to achieve it 🙂 Never feel like you can't log in and ask for some help or support, it's why we are here 🙂

Hi Katie - and so lovely to hear from you.
Between you and me whats a half a stone gain - nothing really - and not surprising with all the changes you have been through - and yes I have definitely been in your situation.

Diet wise - you know what to do. Sit down, plan your food and try and stick to it for a week - but dont be too hard on yourself - take it steady.

I am sure with everything else it will all fall into place, now you have posted - I think it means you have finally faced it.

...and madam dont ever feel you cant post. This forum is ideal for when things aren't going well - so dont be a stranger again....now just off to find my boot for the kicking you so politely requested.

If you fancy coming back in the WLG - it will be great to have you.🙂

Hi Lucy. Thanks for the kind words of encouragement and the reassurance. You are always so positive and helpful and I am grateful for your support 🙂 I promise to look forwards now, not back and as soon as I feel able I will re-join the WLG although I think I have a little catching up to do!😛 Katie x🙂

COngratulations on the degree you hve worked so hard for.

You sound very busy and have had a lot going on, so it is easy not to be as tight as you were before with things. I think most people would do the same in your position, so don't beat yourself up over it. Things will get back to normal and you will regain everything. Don't forget you need treats too.
