Husband bought a bag of roasted and salted nuts (pea/cashew) - are these good or bad?

Also, I really like oat-cakes but note they are high in salt? Is there an alternative....

Can't think of any more questions to ask at this time...but will I'm sure 🙄

I have peanuts all the time. They have 'good' fats in them, the only problem is the extra salt, but that's probably only a problem if you eat a lot in one go or have a high-salt diet to start with. My BP is fine despite eating a packet of dry-roasted peanuts most days 🙂

Don't know about the oat cakes!

Hi

You can get low salt oatcakes - I've just googled them because I havent bought them for a while - Villiage Bakery Brand make some which Waitrose sells, or you can buy online. Expect 'other brands are available':D

Personally I stick to unsalted nuts as I have a weekness for salty foods and I would eat far too many in one go if they were salty. Try Almonds or Pistashios 🙂

They are not too bad - all nuts are Low GI and contain good fats and minerals in them. Nuts are a good source of protein as well.

Cashews are slightly naughtier as they have a higher level of carbohydrate in them and more saturated fats then peanuts. But they are still a lot better then many over snacky things.

I like nuts -- since just before the Christmas break I've got through 1Kg(!) of walnuts and am working through my third 500g bag (it's good that I have a walnut pick from years ago, it's a much easier way to open walnuts than nutcrackers; pity they don't seem to be available anymore, I think I got mine in a bag of walnuts).

I also like unsalted macadamias; although a bit pricy, their unique taste and crunch are good.

One thing I'm wondering is why none of the bags of mixed nuts I've seen contain brazils (they used to be a common ingredient), although the one I bought contained (three) pecans...
