How wonderful! 🙂 I'm sure someone posted a similar story recently, or I might have read it on Facebook - it seems the General Public are becoming more aware of the fact that we might not be just drunk, or could it have been the two trollies of minieggs you were pushing that gave it away? 😉

Yes what till time and what staff member will be all on your till receipt, so it you show customer services the receipt and they will know who this very helpful staff member..

And it's nice not only to see the help you received but also you'll going back in to say 'thank you'.... This will certainly give her a boast in her job.

Perhaps my body was preparing its self for eat the two troly loads of minnie eggs:D

That's really nice to hear!

Especially as I very nearly decked the one we got in Tesco's this evening! - firstly she thought she was in a competition to get everything past her barcode reader in record time, had got the off part full by the time we'd finished unloading the trolley on the Start line and by the time we'd got the empty trolley the other end, she was piling up heavy stuff on top of eg mandarin oranges in an effort to beat the clock. I was trying to keep up moving it along and couldn't and I did snap at her, couldn't help it - Don't do that! - leave it where it is and just wait, will you!

So Pete was still filling bags and I started to pay her.

I gave her assorted coupons, she gave me three back (they are all joined together so I let them sort em out and rip em off) one of which was '70p off any 2kg plus bag of Tesco OB Rice'. We had purchased a 2kg bag of Tesco OB easy-cook long grain rice. I gave it her back. She said you haven't bought any rice. I said we have. She said the till isn't showing it. I said well you haven't rung it up then. She said Give it me back then. (NB - no 'please') So we did. She says The coupon's not going through and gave it me back again. Then said Oh it's long grain rice, that's why. I said It doesn't specify, it just says ANY blah blah rice. Well I can't help it, it won't accept it. I said fine, call your Supervisor then. And pulled a face and did a meaningful grin at the poor woman behind us. And she did a Deep Sigh and threw us a filthy look and snapped 'I've taken it off now!'

What a difference!

I remember being in M&S and I was having a hypo, my husband grabbed me some apple juice and told me to have it and he'll pay when we go past the tills. I don't know if it was because I looked drunk or if it was because I hadn't paid for it, but I was getting stared at and got some right dirty looks!

TW, I hate it when the checkout person tries to break the sound barrier when checking things through and then demands the cash before you've hardly even started loading into bags! They still have to wait for you - I never start looking for the cash until I've got the bags sorted - and standing there taping their fingers and humming and hahing is just plain rude! Prefer using the self-checkouts these days and do things at my own pace 🙂 Wait a minute! Perhaps the rude staff are being specially trained to drive us onto the self checkouts and save the companies money on staff!!! 😱

I hate self checkouts, takes you twice as long and nowhere to put your handbag, plus it doesn't let you to use our own bags which (Copepod will be pleased to hear!) I do NOT approve of ! It sends out the message

'We sold you the 're-use your own bags' scheme on the basis that we are an environmentally friendly shop. Well - we aren't - and the environmentalists can take a running jump. Self checkout helps us make more profit which is truly the only thing we care about.'

Depends which shop - the self checkouts at my local Sainsbury's and ASDA do let you use your own bags. Although it's very easy to confuse the till if you don't put the bag down at the right time.

It is nice when you get good service like that. I think I'd also write and tell the store manager that you were pleased with the way the lady helped you. It's good customer service.

Tescos also let you use your own bag - which supermarket do you (not) use TW?
