YES, WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT!! Look at Friday's results - TR=Target BG, CF=Correction factor, KF=Carbs per unit of insulin.
It's like this every day but in a different order, no pattern etc. But I see the same problem of too late onset of insulin with a long tail - see the morning results above.

Hi Heasandford.

A few things occurr to me.

You're going for a 1 hour walk after your lunch. This looks like it is continuing to lower your BG all afternoon. Maybe you could miss a unit or 2 of novorapid off your lunch dose or eat something small during your walk ?

Also, I don't know what apple cheese is but if it is a sort of cheese, it may delay any carbs getting through to correct your 3.7. A jelly baby or two might have been better ?

You've also done your novorapid in your left thigh, which may slow down/delay release of any quick acting. You'd be better off doing it in your stomach or arm every time.

Other things to note are GI of meal (dark art rather than science!) and how long before meal did you inject ?
There are many other variables which affect digestion and absorption of course.🙂

Thanks for your comments

I agree the afternoon walk was badly managed, probably didn't need 12 units and could have had more carbs when I saw the 5 BG result at 15.30.

I corrected with lucozade first, then had an apple and small piece of cheese 20minutes later to keep me going until the next meal.

I struggle with injection sites, my original DSN (haven't had one for about 7 years!) preferred thigh injections, and I seem to get lumpy round my stomach. Am going to try again though

With 'mixed' meals I am sure it is fairly 'mixed' GI eg sandwich of bread with filling and salad will ensure high of bread is reduced - most of my meals are like that, plus I trained as a food scientist so reckon I understand fairly well.

Look at the morning though - I injected over 40minutes before breakfast then walked to a meeting (definitely not a stressful one!) and still it went up to over 15 later in the morning.
(Sorry the figures previously look a bit confusing, it wouldn't take the table properly and spread the results to make them readable)

May I ask what you're having for breakfast ?

Maybe a late spike from that mid morning ?

The injection sites can make a big difference too. Not just where but how often you rotate. If you have any fatty lumps developing (and they can be subtle) they'll cause mayhem.

You could do with a completely new area ideally to eliminate it. Have you tried above your hips or just around the back ?

Or underneath the ribcage ?

I'm like a pincushion at the mo since I started trying different areas.🙄

Just a quick note to say I've put your recent posts in a thread on their own to make sure you get your own replies. 🙂

I have the same breakfast every morning, branflakes and skimmed milk, I know some of you have trouble with cereals but it's been alright up to now. I do hope I don't have to change as it's one of those constants in a complicated life!

Maybe the injection sites are worth looking at, never heard of under ribcage! I don't carry a lot of fat, which made the thigh - where I do more! - a good option.

Hope I get some more comments - thanks for moving me!

Do you think you could post some other days?

Its quite hard to tell off one day whether maybe your correction factor or carbs per unit of insulin may be out. Either could be causing some of the problems.

I wonder if there is a simpler way to display the information as to any maths phobics amongst us they would take one look and run away fast.

THere's a chart somewhere that shows all the injection sites. I'll see if I can find it.

I've rarely had much fat on me either other than a few slack periods when I wasn't running high half the time ! 🙄

If you have a run of good mornings, afternoons or evenings, you could check your ratios from them. Or find some days when your premeal BG is just right and use your previous dose and your carbs in that period, including any corrections, to work out a decent ratio.

If you're able, you could do a basal test, but I've never done one myself.

Rob

Thanks again for the responses - I had another day very similar results. Previously I set up the ratios based on a couple of weeks results, but I have to say that my results are often all over the place! Right now waiting to go on another course, but wonder whether I should apply for a pump to make someone take notice of my sets of results - partly my fault as I didn't think it could get any better, only when I saw what could be done here that I saw it might be possible. My recently referred DSN has offered me an Expert so may take notice of the results on that. I will download results from that when I get it!
