. Totally. Hence the emphasis on emergency twice and no recommendation to actually do as I would.

Only people with enough experience to make that risk assessment would be in possession of out of date syringes and the knowledge of how to use them anyway!
My back up plan, until I got spare pens, was to transfer the cartridge from whichever pen had broken into the my other pen (having NovoPen Echoes for both basal and bolus insulin) but that is obviously risky as it would be easy to get confused if swapping cartridges into just one pen.

@rebrascora . I seriously doubt I’ll ever be in a position where my current pens and 2 old pens would all fail at the same time..
Saying that, if you’d have told me 18 months ago I’d be where I am now doing what I’m having to do ........I’d have called you mad.

Dare we ask what you are doing now??

Currently I’ve just eaten a minted lamb Cornish pastie. Slightly bigger picture involves a little annoyance known as Covid 19.
Ahh! Sorry to here about the latter (hope there are no long lasting effects) but enjoy the former.... Yum!!

Oh sorry . I’ve been misunderstood. Luckily I’ve not had Covid. I was one of those that was ill at the start of 2020 prior to all the Covid stuff kicking off. Was it Covid? I don’t know.
My annoyance is with how Covid has impacted on all of us and our abilities to live a “ normal “ life.
The pastie was delicious thank you.

It’s time for me to get out my spare echo pen, the battery has gone to a better place . I do find the memory so good for those did I or didn’t eye moments. The old one will be kept as a spare.

Being on pump don't use echo pen much, must be years, maybe 4 since first opened & memory function still works.
Aye probably cause it hasn't been used much in that time! LOL, my battery is temperamental, often displaying fine and then other times displaying 2 dashes, I've only been using it since 2019 (when my other snapped) and it's isn't like its used a lot, 3 times a day, 4 times a day twice a year, miffed is an understatement! LOL xx

Make sure you say what colours you want
Why?
I get the point to request different colours if basal is also NovoNordisk but I would not be requesting specific colours. I would be grateful for spare pens regardless whether they matched my outfit or not.

I think @DaveB is meaning specify the colour so that it is the same as the one it is replacing, so that there is no confusion over which insulin it is dispensing, rather than as a fashion statement.

So for me I use red for Bolus and blue for basal. I would not want a blue replacement pen if my bolus pen broke/died as I would then have 2 blue pens with different insulins. Not sure what other colours there are or even if there are others, but requesting the right colour would be quite important in that case.

Not sure what other colours there are or even if there are others,
nope only blue and red for the Echo, blue and silver for the Novopen 5 xx

I’m lucky. Never injected the wrong insulin only the wrong amount.

I have managed to do this with both of my insulin’s, not at the same time fortunately, it’s scary and I have different colour pens too o_O
