Thanks everyone. Despite the fact that I don't even have the energy to work at the moment the GP has said that "all" I have to do is more exercise in addition to the Susie walking i.e. walk at lunchtime as well as Susie walks and go to the gym regularly. "Once I've lost a few pounds I will feel much better". She asked if I thought I was depressed and I said no. She said that I didn't look like I was suffering from depression or aneamia - she will do some blood tests but she expects them to be negative. Blood tests can't be done until next Thursday so I will somehow have to struggle back to work next week. I hope that she is right but at this moment in time I don't find her comments very helpful

Sorry to hear that there's been no really positive outcome Amanda, sounds like she's putting it all down to weight :( Very difficult to motivate yourself to exercise more when you hardly feel like moving, but I hope you can draw strength from somewhere and are able to try. Perhaps the blood tests will prove her wrong - I've heard it happens sometimes that doctors get things wrong 😉 :D

Thanks Alan - I need to find that inner strength of mine that appears to have disappeared during the past year. Susie will be happy with the extra walks:D OH will probably decide that it means that I can do more chores round the house🙄 I even mentioned to GP that I often can't eat until late morning because of the gastroparesis - which makes energy difficult when you are teaching all morning - but all she could do was sympathise, but I guess there isn't anything else that she can do with regard to the gastroparesis as I'm on all of the medication. Will be interesting to see the results of the blood tests.

Just phoned the Dr's surgery to check what the blood tests were for and I can't believe how long the list is!!!! There are about eight different blood tests include Vitamin D, ESR, foleata (I think), plus a full blood count. If they all come back clear I will feel very healthy! Have now decided to go to the hospital today to have the tests done so that I know what is happening.

sorry the appointment wasn't more useful, but hopefully with all those things they are testing you for, you should get some answers!!!! will be keeping everything crossed for you 🙂

Thank you Katie that's very nice of you

Did you mention the possibility of sleep apnoea ?

I knew someone who asked his Dr about it and they just dismissed it, however they were seeing a specialist about another condition and it came up in that conversation - that led to tests a mask and much more energy.

Hope you get somewhere with the tests.

Sleep apnoea was mentioned by my consultant when I was complaining of tiredness a few years back, said people with diabetes are at an increased risk of suffering this condition and asked me to fill in a questionaire with my wifes imput, it came back fine but reading about it at the time it does point to some of the syptoms you are experiencing AJ.

I really hope the blood tests reveal something that you can fix without too much trouble. I just wanted agree with the other post that the whole hormonal thing for ladies of an uncertain stage can make you so exhausted. There are times when I feel like I'm wading in treacle! No easy answers for this but it has lifted a bit recently at the grand old age of 47.
Another thought - I am not a diabetic myself (my son is) but during my obsessive internet reading :D I've come across quite a few people who found that a change of insulin has helped with symptoms like these. Might be worth considering if all else fails?
Catherine

Thanks everyone. I completely forgot to mention the sleep apnoea - I went in and said to the GP that I had written everything down to which she just groaned and had no interest at all in what I had written! I'm trying to be positive about things - I am going to take her advice about more exercise and have just reactivated my gym membership - if that works, then hooray she was right. If that doesn't work and nothing shows up in the blood tests I'm not sure how to pursue the other options, such as sleep apnoea and insulin with her. She said that she has lots of people come in complaining that they are tired and it's just that they don't excercise enough. She also said that I was lucky that I only worked 2 1/2 days a week - I didn't bother arguing the health reasons as to why I only work a shorter week - but when I've tried to work more before I have been very ill and signed off work for weeks.

Hi Amanda, sorry you are feeling so tired. Maybe some more exercise will help but be careful that you don't over do it, if exercise makes your symptoms worse then you need to go back to the doctors. It sounds like your doctor has just brushed you off, I was told for years that it was lack of exercise but I was too ill to exercise so what help was that? I now find that pacing myself and doing only what I know I can do is much better for me than pushing myself. Eating a healthy diet will be important if you can't do much exercise.

Hi Amanda, sorry I am a bit late to this thread... It sounds as if your doctor is doing a complete workup on you but did she mention a possible vitamin B12 deficiency? My dad has this and at time can feel completely shattered also if they are going to measure your iron levels they need to do your folate at the same time as sometimes anaemia can be folate deficiency but the iron levels can show as normal. Good luck for next Thursday x

Thanks Carol I think the GP has put me down for both the folate and B12. I had the blood tests done at the hospital today. Realised I gave the GP the wrong information......she assumed that I had put on a few pounds and I agreed with her.........have just weighed myself and found out that I have actually lost around eight pounds in the last four or five weeks

Hi Amanda, your GP sounds really insensitive to me, I know they can't wave a magic wand but with all you put up with you would think she could do more than "groan" at your list. I wish you all the best with the blood tests, glad that you have got it done sooner than later, anything that speeds up the process is good. Hope you soon feel lots better.xx

Hi Amanda. I have sleep apnoea and I use cpap machine. Before I was diagnosed I could have slept the clock round, every day. It takes a bit of time to get used to cpap but now I can really feel the difference when I have had a good night, on the cpap. The machine is almost silent and there is lots of different types of masks to try. I know it sounds terrible, and no one could have been more frightened than I was, but it really gets easier. I hope you can ask your doctor about refering you to a sleep specialist and see what they can do for you. I am by no means saying that you have sleep apnoea, but at least you could rule it out. Good luck.

Thanks everyone. One of the blood tests has come back with a result that is not very good. I've got to get the test repeated on October 28th. The test result, together with the fatigue, has really worried me. The last time I did anything was on Sunday when I walked Susie, later in the day I thought my legs were going to give way. Just hoping that I will have the energy to go back to work on Friday and not be off ill again
