Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi everyone. I've been diagnosed with diabetes type 1 from the age of 18. I've had many ups and downs since then, but mostly downs. This is the first time I'm attempting to join a forum/group related to diabetes, I haven't even met (properly) anyone in person that is diabetic so far. My doctor is great, my friends do try to understand from time to time with the knowledge they have, I have supportive parents but it hasn't been enough. I've come to terms that all along I've been on a denial mode, as probably many of you. I sincerely hope this step will help me embrace this disease with the seriousness it deserves but also to have a better life, free of fear and guilt.

Hi Joana and welcome to the forum. This is a great place for help and advice.

Hi Joana, welcome to the forum 🙂 No need to feel fearful or guilty, no-one can help having diabetes, but there is a lot you can do to manage the condition well so that it has minimal impact on your life. What insulin regime are you on, and how long have you been diagnosed?

Thank you Northerner! I'm on novorapid and lantus. I've been diabetic for almost 9 years now..! Feels a bit crazy not having looked for help before, but like I said internalising it has always been an issue..

Hello Joana, a big welcome from me as well 🙂

Hello Joana welcome.

Welcome to the forum! 🙂

Welcome to the group

Welcome to the forum, glad you found us 🙂. What part of the world are you from? We hAve forum meet ups which are great fun and happen around the country. Check out the events page. I have to say, both being on this forum and actually meeting other people with diabetes has been invaluable for me. Another thing I did which meant I met people locally is go on a DAFNE course. Might be worth a look.

Welcome Joana. People here are full of information gleaned from their own experience so ask away and somebody will have an answer to help you

Hi Joana...I was diagnosed approximately six weeks ago...started off positively...getting good results...then threw a real strop yesterday after a couple of bad test results...silly...childish...got to the point where just wanted to feel like 'ME 'again...still in denial I suppose...relieved to have found this forum...had a good vent last night...stroppy or what...however the responses I got were positive...no judgement or disapproval...grateful for that...I have family & friends that are supportive...and often feel that is not enough...need more patience and have to realise as you state...'embrace this disease with the seriousness it deserves but also to have a better life, free of fear and guilt'... well said...

Hi Joana. Welcome to the forum.🙂 I was feeling pretty bad about my diabetes too when I stumbled on this forum. Boy am I glad I found it!😛 The support and advice I've received here have been invaluable. Things don't feel quite so bleak anymore - I hope we can help you feel more positive too!🙂

Hello and welcome Joana 🙂
Joining this forum and talking to others who have the same battles has been the best thing as I went through many years of turmoil before starting to get a grip of the D. I really hope it helps you out as much as it has me 🙂
