Hi All Since Being Diagnosed In December I Have Been Off Work Due To Levels Being Up And Down And Basically Feeling Very Down And Frightened. I Went To Occ Health Today To See If I Could Return To Work. The Doctor I Saw Was Very Nice And I Found Out He Was Diabetic Too! We Had A Good Chat About Everything And I Asked When I Could Go Back To Work He Said Four Weeks As He Thought I Wasn't Ready To Return Either Physically Or Emotionally. It Came As A Bit Of A Shock As I Havent Had A Hypo For A Couple Of Days Now Which Is An Achievement For Me! I Felt Quite Upset And Cried All The Way Home, But I Know Deep Down He Is Probably Right As I Am Slowly Coming To Terms With Everything - Taken A While But Getting There. Has Anyone Else Experienced This Or Am I Just Soft And Being Over Sensitive? (usually A Strong Person - I Just Get On With Things As A Rule) Sorry To Waffle Just Wanted To Get It Out Of My System! Ha Ha

Karen, I was off work for 3 months before I went back and then it was only part time for 3 weeks and then full time for a week. I handed my notice in after that (see prevoius posts) and got another month at home on 'gardening leave'. My advice would be to take as much time as you can and feel comfortable with things before you go back. Even then it will be a learning experience, but it looks like you have some good support there. Good luck.

Agree with what alan has said, take as much time as you need.

I was off work for 7 weeks initially, but went back part time, they did not want me to but i told them i was prepared to resign as did not feel ready for full time, they let me and i was part time for 7 months. It wasnt that i was not physically or emotionally unable to do full time, i just felt it was right for me as you need to get your head around everything and i was worried how the work would affect me. You cant explain it but you will know when you are ready and how much you want to do. Totally think of yourself, thats what i did anyway :D

ditto what alan said i have just got sick note till 6th april after i had a week of hypers i did not feel safe at work i work with knives and that so i was worrying , you know your own self and body dont feel pressured your health is very important. If I aint ready by that time i wont go back im not daft lol x

Thank You All For Your Replies. Feel Better Knowing I Am Not Alone In All This. Thanks Once Again!

Hope that you will feel emotionally better enough to go back in 4 weeks time. Is there any phased return type thing you can do?
Just be prepared for things to all change when you go back, your blood sugars will probably go out of whack until you can work out how work affects your levels.

just wondering is there any reason why you put a capital letter at the start of each word?

hi nikki yes there is phase return at work employers are pretty good and i am going to ask about it when i see occ health. capital letters at the start of each word is because i wrote in capitals and the computer changed it that way i dont know why have wrote this time in lower case thanks for your reply and concern. karen
