Hi All,

Bede has been fluctuating recently between moderate highs (14-16) and severe lows (1.6 - 3.2) which we are sorting with the DSN. My question is, does anyone else experience nose bleeds when their blood sugars are unstable? Or am I just putting everything down to diabetes these days????

It's more out of curiosity than worry.....

Thanks

I've never heard of it being diabetes related but I could be wrong. I know some people just seem more prone to them than others. My dad used to suffer and yet I've only ever had one. OH also gets them quite often. Maybe someone else will be able to give you a definite answer.

I get frequent nose bleeds, usually if the air pressure suddenly drops, not a nice experience as some of them can last for well over the 10 minutes that doctors feel is normal, though I've been told that any that last more than 1/2 hour are more serious and require medical help (only had 1 like this and I was in hospital at the time so...)

If the nose bleeds are becoming too much, your GP may suggest that the capilliaries are cautrerised, basically using an incredibly hot wire to burn them shut. I declined when my GP suggested it, I'll only do it if I have more severe/serious bleeds that require help.

Hope this helps.

I get frequent nose bleeds and anything can start them off. I also find that aspirin/annadin will cause them too.

I have to avoid Ibuprofen, it causes me to have swelling and nose bleeds. Not fun.

I've never had nose bleeds, so it's probably not Diabetes related. Nose bleeds can occur because the blood vessels get broken. Also an injury to nose, forceful nose blowing, or picking the nose ( naughty) 😛 makes the nose bleed. Sheena

my other half had his nose cortirized, used a hot gun basically to close all the vessels up, but unfortunetly it did not work and he still gets them now, last one being about 4 wees ago while out delivering at work...(he aint diabetic)

apparently he says the hotter he is the worse they are,,

I've never experienced these either. Hope you get it sorted - must be a right pain for you x

My hubby used to get a lot and the last time ended up in A&E so he was advised to go to his GP for cauterisation but instead of a hot wire, the doc used a liquid on a cotton bud. Hubby said it stung a bit but he hasn't had a bleed since. He's not diabetic btw.

My little feller who is not diabetic has regular nose bleeds. We normally sort it out by giving him ice cream or an ice lolly, which in a diabetic is probably better if you're hypo.

Not sure about nose bleeds in relation to diabetes, but all the children I've known who get childhood nose bleeds grow out of them.It might pay you to talk to the doctor or DSN and see what they suggest.

I've had them all my life. I don't think it's diabetes related though. I had a minor op to seal a couple of small blood vessels in my schnoz when I was 16 and they've been much less frequent since. Now I only get them when I have a bad cold and am sneezing a lot.
